isnt this the carb holley 1904 that is great for people like me that have fhead engines in a 2a with a low hood?

steep price tag... but decent

If it's worth keeping the low hood and keeping away from the unsightly ugly tin cup on the lid of it I am game to getting one of these rebuilt like that... But I rather find and have someone rebuild a 1904 carb than fork out 500 bucks nearly...

Ouch !

Thats one of them.

I got mine off of ebay, took two to get a good one but even with the kit I've got about $ 75 in mine and got rid of that ugly hood ! Wink

A 1909 will also work and I seem to remember another number. Stay away from the early ones with the glass bowl.

My '44 MB came with an F-head installed with the Holley 1904 carb, and the hood was still cut!  I don't see how the carb will fit under the hood. Do you need to do anything else to make the F-head/Holley 1904 fit under the hood?  Can someone please post a photo of an F-head installed in a CJ-2A/3A/MB?  Thanks!

Woolf,

Ya, I thought all I had to do was put the holley on and I'd be done. There turnes out to be a little more to it. I had to modfy an air horn and then trim about  3" off the inside hood ridge and ended up with about a whopping 1/2 " clearance. I got rid of the scoop though and it runs great.
I've never posted photos here before but I'll see if I can figure it out.

berettajeep,

It's been awhile since I researched this but I think the glass bowl 1904 is an early version
that went on IH pickups and the base is a little differant. Also, I was kinda afraid of the glass
bowl breaking even though it's kinda neat.

Mike,

I had the same problems with mine at first. Put a new kit in it from Napa for around $25 and it works fine now.

the 1904 which i used on my f-head motor will work and a 1908 holley.as long as the mounting holes are 2 3/4th in apart and i beleave the opening were the fuel goes in is 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 ths it might work.i put a 1 in spacer on mine to clear the valve cover.most people just put a dent in the valve cover.i already had a hood scoop on mine so i wasnt worried about clearence issues.if you already have a 1920 carb send me a couple picks and il let you know.also some off the carbs have to have the mounting holes drilled to 3/8th some dont.i also shortened my dip stick and remarked it beause it will rub against the carb.hope this helps.
