For something born the same year as me it sure looks a lot better. I'll bet it doesn't creak as much as me either. Beautiful! Thumbs Up

Ralf,  Very nice.  What's the difference between a J-5 and a J-3?  Bigger engine I'd guess but were there any airframe changes etc?

J-5A is 6 inches wider than a J-3 Cub and had a 75 HP engine vs. the 65 HP in a J-3.  They only made J-5's in 1940, 1941 and a few in 1942, before construction stopped for the pre-war build up of J-3's to become the L-4 spotter planes of WW2.  They only built 783 J-5A's. It was actually a three person design as it has a wide back seat big enough for two kids or two 1940's size people.  Mine has a stroked 85 HP making 97 HP or so.  You also solo it out of the front seat rather than the back seat as in a J-3.

I flew 125 miles North to a pasture near Zanesville Ohio for breakfast this morning.  I am flying it to Oshkosh next weekend.

Just got back from Oshkosh.  8.5 hour flight home to Fayetteville WV (WV59), with two fuel stops, Joliet, IL and Middleton OH. On the way up a B-24 flew over me en route to Oshkosh.

We just had the B-17 Sentimental Journey here at the Warren County airport for a week. It went over my place several times a day all week long. SOOOO cool. You could take a 10 min. ride for only $485!
I bought a NACO tail light and a PTO guard for my JEEP instead and still had some cash left for about a 4 min ride.

Those bomber rides are expensive, but usually they are tax deductible because the planes are considered "museums". That's the story I got a few years ago when a B-17 and a B-24 visited the Aurora Airport.
