Was my mothers first car in highschool, been sitting in the garage at my grandparents for ever being used as a storage locker. grandpa pulled the engine to rework it some 30 years ago and never got around to it. left it in some degreaser or cleaner and it ate a hole in the engine block where there shouldn't be one.

Ideally it should just need an engine/transmission and it will start right up!  I have not really done much engine work though and have no idea where to start even finding one that is compatible.  Any suggestions on what engine/tranny to throw in with the least amount of issues?

Something that solid and original deserves an original L134 and T90 in my opinion.

thanks it has been garaged its entire life so the body and even plastics are in great condition.  I'll definitely look into finding an original!  Any tips?

looks like you have the tranny and bell housing. Do you have the external engine parts and the radiator? That would help reduce cost tremendously.

You can buy a complete rebuilt engine from a couple of the suppliers. Might contact Ron Fitzpatrick at G503.com in Grants Pass OR and see what he has or knows about.

I would definitely would go original , Just less head aches.  Original jeeps selling price is usually higher than modified Jeeps.
Keep your eye on crags list .  Original motors do come up.   E-Pay is good put price is usually higher.
Call Jon at Border Parts, I always see one or two out side in front.   His store is in San Diego.
Tell him Jerry sent you.

Do  you still have the original engine?  Maybe the degreaser just ate through a replaceable freeze plug.
