Did my timing chain already jump a tooth?  Can the engine still run pretty good one tooth retarded?

Look's ok to me,chain look's a little loose! The dot on crank gear tooth when turned a little will align with the dot between the camshaft gear teeth, when in time they will be in the centerline of the camshaft and crankshaft!I run a 47 when I was a little younger and did not know any better with the chain slapping the cover every now and then, would not do that now though!Luckily it never did jump time while I had it!Dont think it would run to good if at all one tooth off!Smile

well, you probably ARE crazy, but it's got nuttin' to do with the chain Tongue

I think I'd consult the manual and follow the procedure for lining the gears up and see how it looks. It looks off to me, but I've never messed with the timing setup on an L134. I have done many chain driven V8s, and by comparison, it doesn't look right.

Looks like the chain is stretched, and it is off by a tooth. Can't tell if the sprockets are worn, but safest way is all new components.

Yeah, it did!  I can't wait to get it fixed and back it the Jeep to see how much better it will be.

I would recommend the double roller kit. If you add the cost of a regular timing chain with the cost of the new sprockets it isn't much more for the double roller kit which includes all the pieces.

You will not believe how good these motors can run with the double roller.

I just purchased one for a MB engine rebuild I am doing. ( another iron (project) in the fire I have) I agree with rocketeer it is money well spent IMO. As I typed this russnj posted a comment. With his comment I am looking forward to a smooth run engine.
