Last week got another Jeep.  Too bad I wasn't a bit earlier.  The guy selling started parting it out.  He sold the 16 rims for $25 each, the starter for $25, the carb for $25.  Front end was fine in the pic but the first time I went to see he had backed into it and trashed the generator bracket, front grill, front fenders and radiator.

Motor turns freely and trans and transfer are free.  Frame is good and body is in really good shape as well.  It's a DJ3A and has had a 4 wheel drive train installed.

Looks like I have a surprise in this new Jeep.  Another Jeep friend driving by saw me outside and stopped.  I showed him the new addition and when he looked at the tag on the side of the motor he said that's a Supersonic.  I cleaned a little off the head and sure enough it is.  Now I need a starter that will fit as my 46 starters bolt holes are too small.

The tag on the side of the block.  Same number as stamped on the block by the water pump.

I had been in a lot of junkyards in TN when I was at Fort Campbell and yes, the humidity reeks havoc on vehicles that just sit.

Cleaned it up a little last night.  Got an NOS starter on the way, should be here next week for a compression test.  Now that I know I have standard intake manifold, I can use the carb off my running Jeep for a test to see if it will run.

Hey Zooke

I was thinking when I first read you had a 2 wheel drive Willys Jeep (yoohoo...yipee !!!!.....) I was gonna offer up some money for a 2 wheel drive Jeep front axle...but then I read on farther (darn I said)...

I have no use for my 4 wheel drive in my CJ2A...I would love to change it over to a 2WD if I could find something like what you found (before it got changed over of course)...if you ever find a 2WD Jeep axle let me know...

Looks like a cool start to something new for you that's for sure...

Going to use this old DJ for my military clone so I can take my time with the real GPW stuff on my modded CJ2A frame.

Got a little done on it today.  Took the front wheels off to remove the brake shoes that were binding.  Removed the front fenders and Bubba'd radiator brackets.  Cleaned up the bed and mocked up the GPW grille to see what it looked like.

Starter still is not here.  USPS is very happy to give an early delivery time so you will go with them.  They actually deliver it about 5 days later.  Hope that will be Monday.  Until then I can do other things.

Well, today was a good day, outside of the fact I broke my left foot big toe at work. Thumbs Down  Gives a whole new meaning to big toe.

Starter arrived today.  NOS Autolite 6V from Ryan_M.  Thanks.  Put the starter on and cranked the engine for the first time.  Did a compression test and 95 on the back two and 105 on the front two.  Used the 12v battery to do this.

Put on the carb from my other Jeep I had rebuilt and put in some gas.  Jumped the starter with the positive off the coil - nothing.Unhappy

Cleaned the plugs (did this before I put them back in and tried the first start).  Checked the points in the distributor and no spark.  Cleaned points and now has spark.  Tried again and starter whines.  Put in 6V starter and tried again.  Motor comes to life. Big smile

Ran for few seconds and sounded good.  All in all a good investment.  Looks like I will have a Jeep to use while I am doing my Military Clone with real Military parts.

Added a few missing parts off the 46 2A and ran it for a good 10 minutes.  Water pump works well and water circulates well.  Oil pressure is good too.  Looks I may have a street safe Jeep in short order.Big smile

Actually moved it today under it's own power.  Need to get a seat in it and a gas tank that will work as this does not have the cutout for the CJ2A gas tank filler neck.  Might have to modify the gas tank to work like a military.

Now I get to purchase a complete brake kit hoses, wheel cylinders and pads.  It's going to be my OD driver till I get my other project done properly.

Was the DJ tank you had for sale from this project?

If you didn't want an under the bed tank you could always run a boat tank (new plastic or find an old metal one)... just a thought

Luke yes it was.  I was going to help him sell and then he started to part it before he let me help.  When I saw what was left I bought it for a good price.  The tank turned out to not be the correct one  and it was in bad shape.

Going to use the 2A tank from my other jeep and put the fill on the top like the military one.

This one sounds good.  I do have to put a proper cross member on the frame as they used the stock one from the DJ and it puts the trans and xfer to high and off to the side.  But it does move under it's own power now.

Does yours have the YF carb.  Mine had the WO manifold installed.
