I have recently purchased 47 CJ2A which included complete body, a bare frame, the original tranny and transfer case. I am having a difficult time sourcing front and rear axles with narrow track and rear passenger off set. Ideally I would like a Dana 30 in front and 44 in rear from perhaps a more modern jeep. Has anyone ever shortened axles as well as shortened rear passenger side tube to accommodate the original tranny?

Any good Axle shop can narrow a housing then just buy the correct axle shafts for the width jeep you are building. Look in the Yellow pages for a shop that works on drive shafts and rear end for trucks. Not especially cheap but people do it all the time for various swaps.

I think that you could find axles from a CJ3A (D44 rear) and use the D25 or D27 for the front. This would be simple and less expensive than trying to narrow a set of axles. You could spend the money saved on installing a FF kit with flanges to make the D44 even more durable.

Don't forget that Jeeps used D25 and D27 front axles for decades. Unless you are going to really beat the snot out of the Jeep, the D25 axles will get it done for you.

You could talk to Harry Sheets at Midwest Willys, he has all kinds of used parts.  Or you can look up Kaiser Willys, They handle all new parts!  Just look them up on google search. I live in BC, and  re-built a 53 3B and a 49 jeepster, I dealt with both companies and they are real good to work with!!

I narrowed a set of half ton axles in my garage with a 14" chop saw and a arc welder, held out for years of mud racing with a 400+ hp motor. keep the heat on em, no pics this was before the days of cell phones.
