    Posted: 09 Feb. 2012 at 2:07am
Having trouble finding the right bulb for my new dash light.  I have searched all applicable threads and have gotten to the one that gives me a number (5312v1cp) but so far that has not helped me put a bulb in the last empty hole in the dash - except for the parking brake handle hole but that's another story.  The 53 appears to be a bulb number that is used on the bubble packs in all the parts stores and if you read the packages they are 12 volts (that's good) 1 candle power (works for me) but when you get back from town, having had to buy two of them - they won't fit!!  Won't go under the little hood.  I have contacted Walck's and KW and evidently I am the only one looking for one and whatever they are you can get them anywhere - Grrrrr!  At least this is a lot more entertaining than no oil pressure or a stuck clutch.  Any help, or constructive ridicule will be appreciated.

If you have a 6 volt system the bulb you need is a No. 63. It's a 6 volt, 3 candle power, single contact bulb. This is used in the cj2a dash light.

I guess I lucked out then, I have two of those bulbs intact laying around. I haven't tested them, but the filiment isn't burned out on either one so I suppose they might still be good after who knows how many years old they are.

OUTSTANDING!!  I should have asked for help sooner.  If it wasn't 12:36AM I would go to town right now and get a couple.  Thanks

Good point, I was thinking of a cj2a application. If it is not or it's been converted to 12 volt the 63 bulb would be incorrect. I'll edit the post.

Thanks Sean,
It is comforting to know that you are out there providing back up in case one of us gets on the wrong track.  That's a big part of what separates this forum from the G, 3A, or other similar forums.  Glad I didn't add to my considerable collection of strange looking light bulbs.  Having the correct bulb numbers, whether for 6 or 12 volts will help someone down the line.  We can leave the 24 volt bulb numbers for the other guys to find Wink.

#67 is what Bugger had when I rescued him from Ohio. What would be the effect of using a 12v bulb?

Just went out and pulled my bulb out, it is a 67.  My '46 CJ2A has been converted to 12 volts.

I struggled to find the correct bulbs as well and after much searching online found bulbtown had a good selection with descriptions of the base styles which helped educate me very well.

And I was wondering why I was blowing the 63's - they'd last a turn or two before they'd burn up.  They were REALLY bright though.

To clarify - 67 is normal life, and 1155 is supposed to be double-life.

Autozone had both - 4.99 and 5.99 from Phillips.
