My '53 Jeep pickup with the 134 Fhead has the double acting fuel/vacuum pump. It came with no spacer behind the pump where it bolts up to the block. The M38A1 had a thick spacer, the single acting upper fuel pump only had no spacer. The question is: should my civi double acting fuel pump have the thinner steel spacer and two gaskets behind it????????? It's on and working now with no spacer, but it was tough to get it on. John

It depends on which fuel pump you have. Oldtime both here and over on the 3b page has some good info on that. Here is a tech page from the 3b page discussing it.

Short answer, dual action (fuel+vacuum) - yes, single action (fuel only) - no.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like I'm going to install a spacer soon. I wondered why it was tough to install. It was also warped at the gasket surface. It may also help with too high a fuel pressure and hard starting when warm. John
