It's just driving down a straight road man. I just pushed my right foot forward a little more than usual.

You mean not every jeep can do 60mph? I was pegging the needle past 60 today trying to get the engine to go past 180 degrees on an 82 degree day.

Hi All,
Got some shots to share: This is my Uncle Jim and cousin Chris along with GW and BAM BAM. We spent part of he 4th of July driving jeeps and talking jeeps. Anywho Jim owned a '53 3B back in the day that I have a few memories of when I was a kid. I asked him if he had any period pics cuz the guys on the forum love that kinda stuff. Funny I should ask. This shot is of my uncles Jim and Steve: ......... In this shot, I'm the little guy to the left beside my brother Tim. These pics were taken August of '70. I was not quite 5. The pics were taken just before Jim left for Vietnam. |

That picture of you in the back Jeff, reminded me of my first ride in a Willys Jeep. We have much in common. You have it worse than me though. LOL, John

I guess im a bit confused by some of what i read on here. I really dont understand why so many find it so amazing that these willys will run comfortably at highway speeds. I drive my 51 on the highway pretty frequently and it cruises comfortably at 60 since i put on the O.D. unit, and i have on many occasions had it at near 70 if no head wind and fairly flat ground. It steers beautifully, no wander and never had a "death wobble" or any kind of shaking even. It drives as nice as most any late model vehicle as far as im concerned. If these old jeeps are truly in good shape...king pins good and properly adjusted, steering gear out thru tie rod ends in good shape, and aligned properly, they drive real nice and handle highway use just fine. Ive driven mine on a couple 250 mile each way trips with no issues at all. ya gotta remember, back in their day, there were many people who had one and it was their only vehicle. Thats part of what i love about them. One day i might be using mine in the field to pull a implement, and the next day drive it 25 miles to town to run some errands, and the following weekend be in the mountains going down some rugged trail enjoying the scenery. Tis why they were called....universal. Those who have them and they cant run down the road nicely, well, you need to do some maintance to them, because whan they are right, they will do it just fine.

Hey Jeff! It was good catching up with your pics on the "life is good" thread.
I had to laugh when I went back to the beginning and saw Arizona. I completely forgot about that one. Anyway, looks like you are up to your old tricks and catching flack for it. Glad to see you got GW back on the road. I'm sure it was a blast driving around Ramsey on the 4th. |
