Today, I went out to take a closer look at the 40 acres of timber my dad owns south of town:

I've considered cutting a few trails through it. There are a couple few ditches that run through the property:

Some places would be interesting:

The bottom of this wall is actually rock:

... anywho, I didn't want to drive around down there by myself and I didn't have a chainsaw. Besides, once I start cutting trails, Who know how many 4 wheelers will go down there and get hurt. There is some deep sand down there too. IDK. What do you do? just start driving around with a chainsaw?

I like to inspect a parcel when there are no leaves on the trees so you can see where everything is. Then form a general plan to connect interesting features. Then go out with a chainsaw.

Jeff, it has to be the ditch for you. Even that isn't enough, but better than the church dirt pile. LOL Maybe have some heavy construction guys haul in some large rock and boulders. Just don't drop one of those trees on you. They are quite heavy. Oilly

One of my Jeepin' buddies will be attending the Reunion with me next week. He is better than me at designing cool Jeep trails. You guys should talk.

Sort of. Some spots have some kinda deep sand. There is another ditch running perpendicular to that one that is more like a v-notch ... although it's dirt so no telling how long it will hold its integrity after it's been wheeled on multiple times. Bob is right. There is so much foliage that I can't really see very far in front of me. Of course if I wait till fall, I'm probably going to have a lot of hunters mad at me. Maybe I can get Cowbell to go down there this fall. I wouldn't want to drive around down there alone.

Here in NY we share a lot of land with hunters. Our Jeepin' season ends in September so we are not interfering with hunting season. That said, if your Dad owns the land - it is his choice who can use it.

There are connecting timber with the neighbors and I would want to respect their hunting.... but if I have to wait till the leaves fall before making trails, at least one hunting season will be interrupted.

Send your bird up and see if there are any natural trails to try.  Maybe a clearing to seek?

Okie Doke. Hawkeye went out and did some recon today:

BAM BAM is on the dirt road on the right:

I couldn't shoot much because my phone started going dead. I'll try to get out tomorrow and shoot some good video. I doubt I'll be able to see much. The camera wont point straight down and as you can see. Lots of foliage.
