That one looks like a handful.  So far I have not seen anything along the lines I am thinking.  My concept is much more subtle.  It does not matter anyway, I have too long of a laundry list to get through before I can start a project.

I was just thinking that I have 2 parts to make a good start on a hot rod / rat rod Willys.  An old frame with butchered front horns and a fiberglass tub.  No on would be too sorry to see either of them converted to something different.

The guy I bough 214246 from was intending to do the same.  2wd conversion, V8, etc, etc.

Not my kind of project, but if anyone is interested, both are for sale here.  Wink

I kinda hate to see good metal carved up too, but to each his own. I wouldn't be caught dead in a rig like that, personally, but it appeals to the "look at me" bunch.

On the magazine and press subject, I quit dealing with the rags a long time ago, regarding getting profiled. As said above, very few are interested in the real work, only the wow factor or the novelty and not much else. Several mags have approached us to see about having a write up on one of our restorations. Everytime though, they want us to take the pics, write the article, then send it in to them. All that for no compensation and they get kinda funny when you ask about plugging the business in the article. And this from magazines we have advertised in for several years now. I think they are all just lazy and want the advert dollars to roll in with minimal fuss.

I like rat rods, especially if they're built in the spirit of the originals - built from everything laying around, no matter the condition.  They are supposed to be built out of all the spare parts you have around & relatively unfinished.

I am disappointed to see some that are built for outrageous sums of money . . . kinda takes the fun out of it.

I'm sure there are some real true enthusiasts out there who truly build these rods as a hobby like folks here build Jeeps, but.......and not to paint everyone with the same broad brush.......Almost everytime I see one of these rides pull up, out steps a 20 something kid in rolled up jeans, with Chuck Taylors, a chain driven wallet, a large portion of their body covered in tattoos and piercings, a Blackberry in hand and some of those trendy little rectangle glasses on, coupled with a 1950's greaser style pompadour.  Many of them generally seem to care less about the hobby as a whole, or interacting with the other fellow hobbyists. The  heritage or lineage of the vehicle they street rodded isn't too important either, but more about how cool it looks.

Again, not everyone is like this, but having spent a lot of time at car and motorcycle shows as an organizer, spectator, and vendor, I've seen this quite a lot.

Guess I'm starting to sound like an old crotchety cuss........"This young generation these days!!!" Tongue

Roc,

Vintage Truck MIGHT do an article on your 2A p'up. They have been experimenting around with trucks like that a bit. Don't remember which issue, but they had a super rare Scout one of about 120 built in 1976. The owner customized the heck out of it. I thought it was a bit of a tragedy given how rare that particular Scout was, but they ran the story.

If you want, I'd be happy to talk to the editor for you. If you're interested, send me some good pictures of it, and I'll use them to plead your case. I might even be able to find a writer for ya if you don't want to do it yerself.

As for JP, a few years ago, they ran a story 'Spared from Restoration We Build a Scrambler Rock Climber.' I was done then.

A 'clean' pair of white ones and just ran across some charcoal gray ones on sale when I was out Christmas shopping....(it's kinda hard to tell them from the navy ones right now but they oughta fade out good.....to something like a 'well worn' black pair)Big smile LOL

Looks like a cast iron tractor seat out the back for the gunner. That drivers seat doesn't exactly look comfy either.
