I just got the CJ a day or so ago.  I'm wanting to confirm the vin number that the Title has on it.

I know I saw a link that showed where they were but I couldnt' find it.

Where are the numbers on the...
Engine?
Body?
Tranny?
T case?

thanks.

Nice start you got going there. Plates should be on:

*The passenger side of the dash
*A small body tag under the hood on the passenger side of the firewall
*A larger Patent no. tag right above the previous tag
*And a frame number tag on the outside of the front drivers side frame   horn (right between the bumper gussets)
*There will also be a number stamped on the edge of the tailgate, and the drivers side toeboard gusset. It's a triangle shaped support under the hood right next to the steering column.

Go by the frame number and the larger firewall plate number. For some reason I have seen a bunch of jeeps where the body number and frame number haven't matched.

Your title may also have been mistakenly issued using the engine number which rarely if at all matched the VIN. SOme states will correct a vin on th etitle if you can prove  by using jeep books, etc that you are actually using the correct number for your jeep. Other states arean't worth even thinking about changing the vin as they can give you a ration of poop  about it.

Check out my latest pictures on my webshots album  for pictures of the  firewall plate locations on a later 2A. Go to webshots, search for pictures by Truck2N  then look for the latest two albums..

Here's the one  of the firewall tag location:
