Can you give me a range on how much this vehicle is worth? The condition appears to be very good from the larger pictures I have seen. How much would you offer?
Thanks ahead of time. Edited by markswanson - 03 Mar. 2011 at 1:53pm |

Not nearly as much as is being asked. I paid $4,600 for the very similar maroon '47 in my avatar a few years ago before the recession. I don't think prices are higher now and they may be a little softer.
it's a little unusual for someone to pop up here with no introduction of themselves and no indication of what there interest is (seller or prospective buyer, for instnace), no age, location or anything other than a name, and get this sort of information. Since I've been open with you, how about giving up something about yourself. Perhaps if you do, others may offer their opinions.

Thanks Sam for your thoughts.
I am looking to buy and I am 28 year old from Dallas, TX. I am not new to Jeeps (CJ5s and CJ8s) but I have never owned a Willys before. I have gotten the seller to accept $5500 and am going to view the vehicle this weekend. I just wanted to make I am not over paying by too much. If you PM me, and are will I have some high resolution pics I can email you. They are too big to upload.
Thanks for your kindness. I hope to become part of this website and the large Willys community. Sorry if my introduction was not appropriate.
Regards,
Mark

Mark,
This question kinda depends on the condition of the Jeep and what you plan to do with it. At a bare minimum (for that price), I'd do a compression test and make sure the trans, transfer and the rest of the drivetrain all work properly. (otherwise your cost of ownership could rise considerably). If you're looking at getting it back to original there are a lot of things that need to be corrected. The front bumper jumps out at me, looks like the welded on setup that I spent many days cutting off and restoring to original. Good luck and welcome to the forum, lots of good people here. |

It's really tough to say if you would be over paying or not. You see a fair number of these for sale in varying condition over time. I'm assuming that the tub is in good shape and that there is little to no rust underneath and that the mechanicals function with no gold-plated issues.
The sort of thing that would increase the value would be if it were unmolested with most of the hard to find original parts there. You can already see a few non-original things on it.

Nice Flattie! What a bumper, looks like it could go toe to toe with a locomotive. What is that on the top of the windshield. Dual solenoids? If you want a driver and not a project, go for it. The suggested compression check would be a good idea. Or, take it for a drive, run it through the gears, high and low. Get it up to speed, 45mph or so. Will it maintain the speed on level ground and on a slight incline? Let off the gas at speed and see what it does. Do this while in second gear and see if it pops out of gear. Crawl underneath. Are the hat channels and floor pan solid? Dicker a little.
I have said this before, you could buy a CJ2a for half as much and pay twice that to restore to a "driver" level. Those modern seats don't really seem out of place like some I have seen. I think I saw one on ewillys that had vinyl buckets with arm rests. I just remembered, the windshield addition is a "Texas Go-Faster" a very popular item "in the day". Looks like there might be a winch tucked into the locomotive bumper, that's what the dual solenoids are all about.
