Both of my flatties, that came from different states, The 47 from texas 20 years ago and the 51 from NH. Both have kaiser supersonics heads on them. Is this a common find?

Interesting to note my 47 has an early timing chain motor as well.

Finding a 2A with a Supersonic head is not uncommon, but I would not say it is a frequent occurrence.

I have owned 20 flatfender jeeps and only one had a Supersonic head on a MB motor, so maybe not too common or not too rare .

Kaiser built some cars in the 1950s, I believe, that used a version of the L-134 and had a cylinder head having Kaiser Supersonic cast on the head.  I'm not sure if there was a functional difference.

You'd think if Kaiser presumed to put a designation like that on the engine that they'd have done something different, but I'm no expert on those engines.

http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?7101-Kaiser-supersonic-head

7.5:1 Compression

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willys_Go_Devil_engine

6.45:1 Compression for L-Head 4

So there would be some performance gained with a supersonic head.  It could be a head swap from a jeepster, because I know some of them had supersonics.

I just put a Supersonic head that I picked up from a member on my 1945 MB block.  looks good but have not started it.  There is a difference in the combustion chambers.

Both of my motors came with them installed. My dads 51 M38 has a willys head. When we rebuild I am gonna check out the differences.....

No numbers on the waterpump boss. Would the numbers on the bottom starter side of the block help identify this?

ok, I went and got all the numbers I could. I didn't want to put them into your data base, as I belive the block is not even close to correct.....

Block number on side by starter 636953 w2 NI CR N2

Date is the non clock style 11-22

Has the small w/p boss with no numbers, they are on the side pad: 440-37-595

Oil pan flange numbers are 11 30 39

Not sure but I think the block is too old to be a replacement motor from the factory, I am guessing somebody got it out of an older willys car or something at some point in the jeeps life.

If only the little guys could talk....
