    Posted: 16 Feb. 2012 at 4:44pm
Hello, I have an intermediate gear from a CJ-2A that is marked 18-5-7.  The only one that I can find tp replace it is marked 18-5-9.  Are they interchangeable and what, if anything, is the difference?  Thanks,

I am not familiar with the term, "intermediate gear" for the CJ-2A.  Perhaps you can identify which gear you mean by referring to the parts figures, below.  I speculate that you mean second gear, but knowing for sure might help someone answer your question.

Sorry, the intermediate gear is in the transfer case.  It's the big one in the middle with two sets of teeth on it.  I hope this clears it up.  Thanks.

They are not interchangeable.

You should also check your intermediate shaft size..is it 3/4 inch, 1 1/8 inch or 1 1/4 inch.

Go to the Novac web site I think this will help with gear numbers, etc.
