Your rear tank installation is very close to what I did on mine-outboarded the cross member and moved the tub mounting tabs at the middle cross member. Managed to build/fit a 24.7 gal tank.
The shackles are not quite as tight as it looks but I did put some delrin rub strips along the tank and rounded the edges of the shackles just in case. The tank has been in about 5 years now with no problems and it does see 4 rated trails.

yes, i see i could easily add a taller tank and probably get close to 20 gal no problem, but this works great for now. My main motivation was to get just get the tank from under the seat. I could not stand driving it with it there, maybe my size 13's had something to do with it. But man is it so much more comfortable with a little room on the floor.

I've been admiring your work and it is giving me ideas. I've had my rolling chassis done for over 11 years but there's always $omething that comes up and keeps me from working on it.
I wonder if the tank fill could be on the driver side and the fill incorporated in the WWII left over trailer electrical plug hole and use an electrical cover for a door to hide it. |

Looks like great work and a cool project. Your tub caught my eye. Initially, I thought M38 because of the tool indents and removable tranny cover....but no battery box or removable gauge plate. Then I saw the MB style glove box...hmmm.
Tell me what you got going there. Did you add those mods? If so, well done!!
I only ask because my tub confuses some that see it. (Tool indents added to a 3A tube.)

Its a replacement tub, an old one, from what i have been told, this project started about 15 years ago. its 2 different colors because the guy got the tub and started to paint it right away, before any of the chassis was ready. He painted all the loose parts the tan, and got sidetracked before he could paint the tub. After it sat for a while, he sprayed the green on just to keep it from rusting. |
