I just got the call and my kit should be in tomorrow. I am going into this deal with both eyes open and the understanding that I may have to do some cutting and welding on the new tub. I have the old tub and can rob brackets and such from it. It will still be better for me int he long run than to repair every panel except the cowl on my original tub.

Ryan,
I'm sure your tub will be identical to mine. If you have the oportunity, let Thorholt, danover, and I know what your first impressions are regarding fit and finish. I must confess that I work for FORD Motor Co. My brother and I scrutinize every detail as we look for quality issues that effects the end user meaning the "Customer".

Nice! The paint is barely dry on that one, Curious to see if the holes for the throttle and brake peddle are fixed yet.

I'd love a new tub. I've ordered some little pieces and they shipped with wet paint that ended up needing sandblasting after the mess it made. |

I uncrated everything last night. Overall im pretty happy with the kit. Mine is a February 15 tub. However, it does not have the jeep script on the toolbox? It does have the correct wheelhouse, under dash brace, and several other things that have been mentioned here. The tailgate with the kit is not the new updated one. I will have to run a hammer and dolley all around the top rail to tighten the inside bend. The spot welds are very pronounced, ill have to sand and fill them. I cant tell yet on the brake and clutch pedals, we set the tub on the chassis but I dont have the pedals on right now. The gas tank holes are not right. They are at least 1/2" off compared to the holes on the original tub.
The only thing im kind of miffed about is the top bow brackets. Rommel posted in February of 13 on this very thread that they were going to start including them in their kits. I didnt get the brackets? |

Ryan,
Who did you order your kit from? I'm beginning to wonder if they have tubs and kits sitting at the factory and just add the Serial number before shipment? It was my understanding from this forum also they were to include the two rear brackets and the two on the wheel housings. I know they said the side brackets wouldn't be added because they get damaged in shipping. Does your tub have a noticeable weld seam across the transmission hump? I'm also still pleased with the tub as compared to rebuilding one of my originals. I'm guessing they still use old floors that were stamped out long ago instead of ceating new. Look at your ribs on top of the Wheel housings, can you see how the added length doesn't match the original stamping? Sorry to hear about the missing "Jeep" Script. I was already prepared to cut mine out and weld in an original tool box if it didn't have the script. Edited by davidover - 01 May 2015 at 8:05pm |

Mine came from Kaiser Willys. Omix just got a shipment in and this one was on it. Yes my tub has a noticable weld on the transmission hump.
I dont know if ill ever put a top on this jeep. I really like the looks of it without the brackets. Ill kick myself if I dont put them on though. The ones on my jeep are no good, ill have to source some. Edited by Ryan_289 - 01 May 2015 at 9:48pm |

I agree with you on the brackets, They look good without them, I decided to leave them off, If I want a top in the future I will just get a modern one or make custom bows, These will never be original anyway with the new body so just as well make it function as you like,

Ok so ive got the tub sitting on the frame. I think the tub may have a slight twist to it, my frame is straight but sitting on the mounts the back left corner doesnt rest on the pads. I can pull on it and get it down so I should be good. I got the passenger fender mounted without much difficulty. The drivers fender is proving to be a B%%ch. It appears that im going to need a massive amount of body shimming to get the fender to line up? (any ideas?) The seat perches on the wheel wells are set to low compared to my old tub, they will have to be removed and rewelded. Also there are no captive nuts or holes drilled for the front drivers seat and rear fuel tank hold down. The tank holes are off and will have to be welded up and re drilled.
So far minor things if you know how to fix. I would hate to think I got one of these kits and didnt have body tools, welding machine, and various cutting tools. |

Ryan,
I'm having almost the same issues. My Passenger fender is the pain and my seat perch's also need to be moved and I'm going to use a pair of originals as the lip where the seat rests is larger. |

So far.
Front of the tub had to be shimmed up more than normal to get the fenders to fit. The drivers fender brace will have to be moved to mount to the frame. The windshield arms are going to have to be heated and bent to make it fit the cowl, the gas tank holes do not line up, the seat rests on the wheel house have to be moved and repositioned, The seat frames are still going to take some heating and tweeking to make them fit, go ahead and buy some 5/16 weld in nuts for the drivers seat and gas tank hold down. I havent put my brake pedals on yet but I think those holes are off. Whew Thats just where im at so far. Am I happy with my purchase, yes. For the money I dont think you could get anything better. If I ever do another one of these I will probably hold out and find a better tub and rebuild it instead. |

From what I'm reading, it sounds like not much has changed with their quality control. I'm disappointed for you guys. The statement of buy original if you can and fix it, is common after the fact. John

Search "MD Juan body faults" and there's a list of what is wrong, everybody added to it and its quite handy to know what you need to improve.

Wow that's still a lot of work but on the upside at least you not dealing with a ton of rust and pinholes. I kind of feel like I should buy an beat up original tub to get measurements off of and compare things, because my original tub is long gone.
