    Posted: 29 June 2013 at 4:52pm
My CJ has been leaking a lot of gear oil so after tightening and inspecting the bottom end, I decided to pull the tranny and t/c floor caps.

First thing I saw after getting them out of the way was a big uncovered hole.

Turns out to be the inspection plate opening for the clutch.

Can I spray something in there that will wash all the trash that has collected on fingers springs etc?

What side does the three vents go?

Thanks

Provided all the gaskets are solid, spray whatever you like in there, then wash it out. The cover is mounted so the louvers are on top, open down and to the rear.

scoutpilot...is there a secret to putting the tranny & t/c floor plate back over the hump in the floor.

It raised up and slipped off with all three handles on but I've tried every combination I know to get it back over them. Confused

I am only aware of the one hole that the tranny stick goes through. The TC sticks poke up through a cutout in the floor hump. Maybe a photo of yours would help.

That plate only accepts the tranny stick. There should be a rubber boot that accepts the twins and then a ring plate that holds it to the tranny cover and the floor.
