Quick pic, then on to a long story...
Fresh out of the barn! I've owned this jeep for 20 years, been in or around the family since the late 50's. It sat outside behind my uncles house for years. As a kid, used to play on it. Then one day dad and uncle pull it around and start it up! Talk about a surprise for a little kid. He fixed it up some, and got it running nice, this was around 1986. I don't think he ever really drove it, parked it in a barn. I bought it in 1993 or 94. I kept it running for quite a while, then the engine lost oil pressure and started smoking. Swapped in a F head(didn't cut the hood), and ran it a little more, till that engine gave up. At this point, I parked it until I could do a proper job of restoring it. Now, the good and bad. Turns out it's pretty darn original. Frame, body, serial, and dash tags all match. Engine is in the right number range, carb and head all match. Body ACM matches tailgate, and is in the right range for serial number. 5 slotted wheels. I didn't know any of this until recently, when I started looking it over. Carb and radiator were done a while back. Brakes were somewhat recently gone through, but I'm sure they could use some work. Springs were rearched and repaired, and new shackles. Think the clutch is recent. Wheels sandblasted, painted, and new 16-6 tires with tubes. New glass. I also have accumulated a butt load of parts over the years. Complete dual shift PTO koineg winch and rear gearbox, Hi-lo hydraulic pump, governors, extra heads, engine, carbs, and just a pile of odds and ends. Now the bad. Lack of time. Wife seems to think our 140 year old farm house could use a few updates. I agree, so it's getting a kitchen before I get too deep into the jeep. Engine needs rebuilt. Rear axle may have a bad pinion, haven't looked at it too hard. Wiring is bad. Everything leaks. Body looks okay from a distance, but most of it is patched over with pop rivets and metal. Most of the floor, sides, rear, tail gate, toolbox, hat channels, and risers are shot. Fenders aren't too bad, but need braces and some patches. Hood, grille, windshield, firewall, and cowl look good. I think, if I remember right, the frame has a crack. Bumpers are shot, and where the hitch is needs replaced. But it is pretty complete. I've saved EVERYTHING when working on it. All I need now are time and money! Edited by Stretch - 22 Oct. 2014 at 5:31pm |

My father-in-law restored '46 #44805 in the early 80's here in southern Ohio.....
Looks like a solid start you have..... Would you share the engine serial number if you believe it to be original? It should be located on a pad behind the water pump.... pics, lots more pics.......

Looks like a great starting point. Hope you are up and cruisin around in it sooner rather than later.

It's alive! And smoky. Oil pressure is decent, no knocks or odd
noises. No brakes! Took it for a quick spin around the yard, almost
hate to tear into it and not have a jeep to drive.
Starter pinion was stuck, and turns out coil was bad. Here's a video of getting it started. |

Since it was nice out, used the crane, pressure washer, and lift on the jeep. Got it all clean...
As you can see, it's got some issues. Looks like I need bumpers and frame horns, and work on the strapping of the frame. One hole in frame, behind front spring mount, for the passenger rear axle spring. Tub needs floors, bed, risers, hat channels, steps, toolbox, sides, rear, and tailgate surround. So everything but the crowl and firewall. Video of the body and frame issues so far. PICTURES! Original engine, with Kaiser supersonic head and intake. Engine bay with F-head. How to clean your frame... Frame horns. Rusted out part of frame. Rear crossmember/frame. Floor boards Skidplate Front fenders Rear fenderwells |

Looked at a frame on craigslist, advertised as surface rust, no rot, ww2, with axles.
That was mostly true. And it was butchered. Frame horns, bumpers, were bubba'ed. Motor mounts and front cross member were torched. All kinds of repairs, none good... Back to fixing mine! |

Hi Stretch,
Looks like a good challenge. It does look like the body repairs were made with care. I've got CJ2A #44017. All matching except the engine. Looks like we both started with the same color too. Good luck with your build. Edit... Funny, even our engine numbers are close. Tim Edited by athawk11 - 30 Oct. 2014 at 1:42am |

That should be original engine, engine numbers run ahead some of serial numbers.
Pretty close, bet they were built same week. |

You may be right on my engine. When looking at the data page, there was nothing super close to my 2A until yours popped up. While comparing yours, mine, and the others listed that appear to have the original engines, we do fall into the basic rule laid out by Sean Collins. That is, when trying to verify whether the engine is original to the 2A, the engine Serial # will typically run 7-10% higher than the 2A Willys Serial #. Hmmm, that information makes this a good day.
