I'm on the CJ3B page as well same handle also. I can post some here too. it was a fun one. it was an easy thing to do and get out of the way. since I didn't have the Ross box on the jeep when I got it. I found one and jumped on it.

here is the thread on it.

Looks like an F mark on the cover, have you checked the main housing for additional marks?

there are some markings on the inside cover of the gear box there are some on the back side as well.

it's definitely a GPW Ross box. bough it off of Ebay a few weeks ago.

well today I tore into taking off the Saginaw gear box. come to find out that the frame was cracked and a big time BUBBA repair was done to it.

note the crack on the frame near the crossmember tube. I messed up in removing some of the excess steel on the frame. I can fix this a better way than what was done.

as you can see BUBBA put way to much steel on the front of the frame. about the same was on the drivers side as well.

I have decided to get replacement parts for the frame and cut the old stuff off and start fresh. I see it as being able to save some time and lots of grinding and using the sawzall to remove the mess BUBBA created.

I did remove the old bell crank parts that were rusted in. they came out with some heat and hammering the hell out of it. I cracked the weld in doing so. but that will be an easy fix for that.

here are the pieces that came out.

Think a GPW guy would want your box, maybe trade you a CJ one?  New frame horns look like the way to go.

I looked at your 3b thread, do they normally have tool indents on the passanger side?

to my knowledge no. that body is a M606. I had to replace the original body due shear amount of rust on the body it would have taken too many hours to fix. a replacement body was needed to save an enormous amounts of time.

thank you.

the sawsall was great today saved lots of time and not so much noise and dust from grinding.

I  learned a lot on the 54 it was lots of fun. I have been a mechanic for 10 years at my job so this wasn't too hard it had some challenges here and there. but fun overall.

I don't know if I want to part with it. I like having it. a little history right there ya know. since I will be making it a MB/2A jeep I think it would be an appropriate piece to have.

I agree that new frame horns are the way to go. my roommate and I discussed that today and it would be a lot easier to do that than to fix and clean up the mess I have now.

Your GPW ROSS box would bring a good price over at G503.  If your not in a hurry, you could sell the GPW box, buy a CJ2A ROSS box and still earn a decent profit.

Also, I recently built a MB2A for a friend who wanted a jeep for parades and such.  Let me know if I can assist you in any way with advice etc.

I would appreciate the help when needed i'll definitely hit you up on it when the time comes. right the frame is the project to get going. that part shouldn't be too hard.

I have an engine that will be coming sometime next month. it was offered by a member here so I took him up on it.

did some work on the 46 the other day after not doing anything for a long time. I took off a lot of old nuts and bolts. straightened out the rear bumper a little took off the two upper bumper gussets to see what was underneath. cut off the other so called frame repair finding out that the frame is cracked on both sides of the crossmember.

hopefully I will be taking this to the frame shop nearby and have them fix the front of the frame and any other issues I have not seen on it.
