The Lt. Colonel (m38mike) appears to be still on his honeymoon ..... leaving his troops to fend for themselves.  Is it considered 'mutiny' if we're not at sea?

Black bear is worth the time to do if you are in the area.  Not that difficult of a trail and the views are well like all the other views on those high mountain jeep trails, wonderful!

Just to let you know, They have already had snow up there and for the last week it looks like rain every day. Some of the rocky areas of Black Bear get slick in the rain. We (the local jeep club) were supposed to do the trail backwards last week end but had to cancel due to weather. It seems as though the winter is trying to come a little early around here this year!  Mike

I understand, I have been over Black Bear many times. I just wanted to leave the jeep at Mikes to remove any temptation to run it again.

Just finished installing the new aluminum radiator, the jeep was overheating like crazy a few months ago.  Just took it for a 40 minuet ride and could not get it over about 160!  The only problem now is the heater won't get very hot!  I did not think it was a problem but the wife was not happy! I am super relived as I did not want to head to Colorado with an overheating jeep.  Getting pretty excited!

Sounds like you got the Jeep happy. Toss in a 180* tstat, the heater and more importantly, the Mrs will will be happy.

A pair of insulated Jeans, gloves, and warm head gear really helps. If you have a top, and doors, you can wimp out. LOL Wimps are more comfortable when it's raining and snowing with wind and 29 degrees. My CJ3A has it all. I can configure it to whatever including the mouse breathing on your foot heater.  Just made sure the camper propane tanks are full. The idea is to have fun, not freeze to death. I did that stuff in high school. Unless a warm air mass takes over, we'll be driving in snowmelt, runoff, and possibly snow at higher altitudes. Our Leader can inform us on the 15th or 16th as to what we have. In the older days, we ran a 160 in the summer and a 190 in the winter in our Jeeps. Shoveling out the seats and scraping both sides of the windshield to go to school was a real treat-----------if it started in the morning. 6 volt at 20 below. I got to walk.  I didn't know about timing, good grounds, new batteries, tune ups, back then----Shocked  I lived on a steep hill, so I did learn about roll starting. you only got one chance though. I'll be sporting a new top this year just in case! - I got this primarily for the dang hot Texas summer sun.

I won't mind it all if I don't have to use it this year at FCT. I only have 2 weekends left to pack stuff up as I will be in Chicago the week prior to FCT. Looking forward to seeing everyone.........

The secret to an easy starting jeep on a cold morning, is to tie it up with the 'lectricity rope the night before.

No such doings. We are here in Texas visiting the kids and picking up whiskey and rum for the fall color tour liquor cabinet.

As soon as we get home I will post a photo of the hatch online so you all can see what is available.

I have been watching the long range forecast for our area and the trend seems to be cooler with a slightly increased chance for moisture. That means we could see snow on our higher elevation excursions. It also means that you should have antifreeze and not just water in your radiators. I do not have any good radiators to trade out for bad ones at this moment.

Part of our trip to Texas was also to enjoy the hot and humid so that we would appreciate our cool and dry that much more.

I forgot to mention up above that our son in law is the distiller for the spirit of Texas Distillery. He produces a most excellent single malt whiskey and a pecan flavored rum that is also very easy to drink. Will be bringing a few bottles of each back home with us for those who would care to sample.

I'll bring some Warped Wing beer from Dayton.  It's good stuff.

Tim,

No sign in sheet but just letting Mike know that you will come in is good. Let him know when you plan on arriving - he has plenty of parking spacesThumbs Up

Tim, you are welcome to join us for the tours. Are you coming alone or with company? When do you think you'll arrive? Will you camp at the Thirsty Dirt Ranch (tour headquarters) or get a motel room in town? Where is home for you?

There is no cost for the tours, but donations to offset costs are gladly accepted.

We look forward to you joining the crowd!!
