Coming from a guy like
you that has seen a lot of Willys Jeeps, I really appreciate your
comment. Thanks Joe Friday.
cal.bar... I
personally don't consider the divisional point between the "flat
fender" and the "not so flat fender" to be an arbitrary
point. The far reaching design change that resulted in the CJ5/M38A1
is pretty well defined. I would imagine that most people in the flat
fender community would agree with me on this.
Just
coming from the interchangeability perspective, most components found on an MB
will bolt right up to a CJ3A with very little effort. Not so true if you
try to marry a CJ5 tub to a CJ2A chassis.
You
are now a member of the Flat Fender Community. I predict you will
eventually see this to be a historical point of reference for Willys. Jscheiner, My apologies for taking your transmission mounting thread so far off track. Hawk |

Yeah It is off by about an inch :( And nothing I have been able to do is putting it forward. I am pretty sure when I removed it, it was bolted up... JS

JS,
you're missing the transmission mounting plate. I'll check some of my photos to see if any show the plate. Hawk

I don't have a good photo. Here is a link to a photo and discussion about a similar issue...

I just took this photo of mine. Hopefully you can see that where the transmission bolts to the plate it is offset a little from the crossmember.
If Tim had a picture of his it would be much prettier than mine. No grease or mud or anything. He's aleregic to that stuff. Here's a link to that part in Walcks catalog. http://walcks4wd.shopgate.com/item/31393831 |

Okay that makes much more sense. Just ordered the plate, and the rubber mounting.
Thanks! Js

No, the CJ3B has all the improvements of the 3A and M38, plus 20% more power! BW

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

The best Jeep is the one you are driving. Whatever it is.
If my feeble old mind still works, the OP was asking about the plate in his Jeep for the transfer case. Perhaps we should wander back in that direction. Edited by Unkamonkey - 21 Oct. 2016 at 6:32am |

As we all know, the old part will be sitting right there in plain sight as soon as the replacement part is installed. How do they do that?
