I stand corrected the wire from my alternator goes to the amp gauge on my jeep, but if you run a volt gauge you can hook to the batt

If you look at Sean's wiring diagram:
http://www.hogheaven.com/jeep/elec/wiring/2Awd.jpg (sorry, its not letting me do clickable either) the alternator acts as the generator and the voltage regulator in one unit. As you can see, it connects to the ammeter. For the solenoid, i think the battery attaches directly to that instead of the alternator, but Im not sure, Im not using a solenoid. Tom R- You can do it yourself or I would suggest taking it to a shop and have them put a new one in and test it if youre not familiar with it. It should cost less than 35 bucks to have them do it. I thought you can hook up a one-wire alternator directly to the battery or hook it up to the starter solenoid? The wire that would go to my ammeter would be like a 12 gauge wire. The cable i have connected to the alt then to the battery is a regular battery cable, i have forgotten what gauge it is maybe a 6.

What if I don't have an ammeter? Will the voltmeter be okay? Also, which wire is which from the bladed terminal? Thanks!

I did this not too long back. If it is a single wire alternator, you will still have the two blades on the side of the alternator. The wire connects to the large screw post on the back of the alternator. The other end of the wire connects to the left post of the ammeter (the post on the right if youre looking at the back of the ammeter). Hope that helps...

Can someone direct me how to hook up an alternator? I bought a delco single wire (I thought) alternator, but it still has the two blade receptacle that a friend told me has to be hooked up. I thought a single wire from the alternator to the battery positive was good enough. I don't want to fry this brand new alternator. Thanks.
