We put new seals & the old yokes in the transfer case & differentials , but had bad leaks. So, we bought new seals (again) and NEW yokes. AH, but we still have bad leaks.  There are no leaks between the seals & the yokes, BUT the fluid runs out around the splined shaft where the nuts go.  The repair manual, parts list  or catalogue s do not show any kind of seal for the splines ( inside or out), just the washers & nuts.

SO., how do we stop the leaks??????

If the leak is around the nut, the lube is seeping out of the splines.  Take the yoke off, put some sealant ( not sure what kind exactly) on the splines and reassemble.  It should solve the problem.

I used pipe dope  on both mine and NO leaks after 200 miles

get the pipe dope rated for gasoline oil natural gas ect  cost like $10.00

put it on the yokes NOT the shaft as on the yokes excess will be pushed OUT  on the saft it would be pushed INTO the t-case

I believe the felt seal is only there to act as a barrier from dust and dirt.  I put an anaerobic sealer on my splines and my leaks have been slowed to almost nothing

I agree about the felt but I assumed that it was there for a purpose and without it there would be a small void with a possible leak..I also agree that without it that the permatex would take up the void .....

I just recently put seals on mine and put a sleeve on the yokes and then put the blue RTV on the yoke and on the splines of the yoke and put it together and let it set for a day before I put 90 weight oil back in. So far it hasn't leaked.

I didn't let mine set up before adding the oil. May be the reason I still have a slow leak...  I'll have to try it next time I decide to change the oil.  Good advice

Old timer here!  That's what I used to seal the splines on my T/C and it did the job. That stuff is a long time favorite.

Sometimes I think the D18 was designed to leak.

I did my input of my tranny and the old the 60's manual I had said to put a lite coat of grease on the felt seal and it hadn't leaked until I replaced my rear main recently, I jacked the rear end up to make it easier, and gear oil leaked out slowly after a couple days but stopped when I put it back down. I might of had a little to much oil in it too.
