Woody,
I have a repro early seat I bought 20-some years ago and never used. If you may be interested in it at a 20 year old price let me know. I sent you a PM also.

Woody,

If that get's too expensive, you can buy a reproduction of those seats.  I think MDJuan makes them?  I saw that North Star Willys had them at the reunion.  (Sorry if I'm telling you something that you already know).  You can also buy the MB style that folds up since you are doing your jeep military anyway.  Just a thought.

One more thought.  If you are not concerned about originality you can do a seat like the General has alot easier:

I know that Bubba did this but this time I think he did a pretty good job.
The structure mounts to the fender wells so there is plenty of room under the seat.  Of course it can't be easily removed like the original.  This seat can be made out of flat stock and wood.  No tricky bends.  Just a thought.

I've been out of town for a few days.Thank for all the great drawings and measurements!I'm going to get a price from my local welding shop and compare that to buying a tubing bender.

Jeff, still not quite right.

The 15.75" is at the bottom of the seat, not top:

Okey Doke, I made the changes that Sean posted.  I have removed the back support since Sean has made a detailed drawing of this area.  Since he has also made a detailed drawing of the "spikes", or whatever you call them, I won't worry about that detail.

Hmmm.  I would have thought they would have been made out of something stronger than 16ga but I guess they know what they're doing.  That will make it easy to bend.

Woody,

Is that all you need?
Should we go for the pans too?Wink

wear out? i doubt it, but more times than not, we have found rear seats without them, so i wold tend to lean towards the excuse that PO's would remove them, then lose them..

Does that part wear out?

It's possible that Willys changed the design to make it easier to replace them.

Is this a possible "early" vs "late" seat thing?
Low,
Isn't that a late seat?

and these feet are also cast material...

Interesting difference.

Mine are fully welded around the support washer. No pin, no holes, not removable.

See new photos above

Where is the seam(s) where the ends of the pipe are welded together?
Dead center in the lower front.  It's NOT welded that I've seen so far, so I presume there must be a plug in there to keep it rigid.

correct, they are crimped on each side of the open ends to an insert, before the pan is installed...low

Jeff:
Quote This one should be closer:
Not quite.  The measurements are on the angle sides, from the vertex:

Quote I think I forgot to ask for dimension "A".
You did Wink.  I had already them, just didn't get around to everything yesterday.
  • rear leg: 3.375" from the bottom of the washer to the bottom of the tubing
  • front leg: 3.875" from the bottom of the flattened foot to the bottom of the tubing
It might be worth measuring the depth of the tub recess for the front foot.  From these dimensions, it should be 1/2".

Quote The cross member in the back rest looks like a type of "unistrut" without the holes.
Don't know what a "unistrut" is, it appears to me to be just a formed piece of 22 ga.  The cross brace is spot welded to the pan, the perimeter of the pan is spot welded to the tubing, the ends of the cross brace are stick welded to the tubing.

Bear with me, this is going to have to come in over a number of days. As I said yesterday, I have lots mote dimensions & photos to post yet.  Maybe this makes sense:

Quote Where is the seam(s) where the ends of the pipe are welded together?
Dead center in the lower front.  It's NOT welded that I've seen so far, so I presume there must be a plug in there to keep it rigid.

Quote What gauge is the tubing?
I can't say.  It's all intact & closed up, so I have no access to the inside of the tubing.  The flattened ends of the front "feet" are 1/8" thick, so approx. 1/16" wall thickness?

The rear leg "pin" is cast iron/steel.  The support washer appears to be stamped steel, so I presume these are a 2-piece assembly.  Of course, I can't see what's up inside the tubing, to see if theres a plug or if it's simply a flat washer welded to the tubing.
