Good! Thanks Sean! This one should be closer: Sean,
I think I forgot to ask for dimension "A". Also, you said that the 18" dimension is on an angle..... from top of back rest to tangent point of the radius?... to projected line where the seat and legs meet? What would be the dimension where I have put the dimension "18.00?".
Also.... The cross member in the back rest looks like a type of "unistrut" without the holes. Sometime (when you have time) some details on that piece would be appreciated.
Edit: Should we continue this discussion in "Jeep Research"
Edit2: Where is the seam(s) where the ends of the pipe are welded together?
What gauge is the tubing? Edited by jpet - 03 Feb. 2009 at 10:57am |

Jeff:
Bear with me, this is going to have to come in over a number of days. As I said yesterday, I have lots mote dimensions & photos to post yet. Maybe this makes sense:
The rear leg "pin" is cast iron/steel. The support washer appears to be stamped steel, so I presume these are a 2-piece assembly. Of course, I can't see what's up inside the tubing, to see if theres a plug or if it's simply a flat washer welded to the tubing. Sean Edited by sean - 29 Nov. 2008 at 6:32pm |

the rear leg "foot" sits up iinside of the tubing, and is pinned, with what appears to be a swedged rivet, but it may also be a removable pin of some type...the rear feet are removable...

Mine are fully welded around the support washer. No pin, no holes, not removable. See new photos above Sean Edited by sean - 29 Nov. 2008 at 6:34pm |

Is this a possible "early" vs "late" seat thing?
Low,
Isn't that a late seat?

Does that part wear out?
It's possible that Willys changed the design to make it easier to replace them. |

wear out? i doubt it, but more times than not, we have found rear seats without them, so i wold tend to lean towards the excuse that PO's would remove them, then lose them..

Okey Doke, I made the changes that Sean posted. I have removed the back support since Sean has made a detailed drawing of this area. Since he has also made a detailed drawing of the "spikes", or whatever you call them, I won't worry about that detail.
Hmmm. I would have thought they would have been made out of something stronger than 16ga but I guess they know what they're doing. That will make it easy to bend.
Woody,
Is that all you need?
Should we go for the pans too? Edited by jpet - 03 Feb. 2009 at 10:55am |

Jeff, still not quite right.
The 15.75" is at the bottom of the seat, not top: |

I've been out of town for a few days.Thank for all the great drawings and measurements!I'm going to get a price from my local welding shop and compare that to buying a tubing bender.

Woody,
If that get's too expensive, you can buy a reproduction of those seats. I think MDJuan makes them? I saw that North Star Willys had them at the reunion. (Sorry if I'm telling you something that you already know). You can also buy the MB style that folds up since you are doing your jeep military anyway. Just a thought.
One more thought. If you are not concerned about originality you can do a seat like the General has alot easier:
I know that Bubba did this but this time I think he did a pretty good job.
The structure mounts to the fender wells so there is plenty of room under the seat. Of course it can't be easily removed like the original. This seat can be made out of flat stock and wood. No tricky bends. Just a thought.
