    Posted: 15 Apr. 2014 at 4:30am
Anybody know where I can get a reproduction or NOS dropdown bracket for the bell-crank that mounts to the tubular crossmember? Got a reproduction frame with everything in place, EXCEPT this critical steering component that I can't seem to find anywhere! I am trying to avoid canibalizing the one off of my old, crash damaged frame, however this is starting to look like my last resort.
I hate it when I find a jeep that has been forgotten and rusting in a barn for 20 years, only to hear it has a sentimental value to the owner who is content letting it rot

I would post in the wanted section of the forum. Indicate whether you need a mount for a 3/4 or 7/8 shaft.

Yeah I was shocked. For what they cost, they definitely should. I can still take the one off my old one and make due with it... But I'd really like to find a repop one if possible. Good idea on the wanted section though, I'll try there next.

CJ2A frame or MB frame? I'm not aware of a repro CJ2A frame so I'm curious where you bought it. If it's an MB frame it won't have that part since the pivot mounts on the front axle housing. Also, if it's an MB frame the body mounts won't line up with a 2A tub.

An MB frame will also have the transmission cross member in the wrong spot for a T90 transmission.

Are you sure it is a CJ frame? It takes a good welder to install this item, it is very critical! I think I would rather install the front cross member with a OE welded Bell Crank or get MB axles.

Good luck jeeper.

I called Carl Walck and he went out in his bone yard and cut one off for me.  I had to replace the front frame horns and the tubular cross-member which did not come with the steering mount.  I have pics of it somewhere.

So, in fact, you didn't get a repro frame, but got front frame horns and a crossmember to repair yours? Would have been nice to know that.

Larry, I don't think Ken replaced frame horns and cross member like me.  Sounds like he just needs the mount which I don't think is available that is why I got Carl to salvage one for me.  Johnny, I am not much of a welder but I was able to weld the mount  to the new cross member but only after a lot of head scratching and looking at lots of photos.  I also fabbed up the whole steering system with the mount clamped in place to get it right.

I'm curious. I'm a hoarder myself, but why would you not want to cut the bracket off of a damaged frame that you do not want to use?   BW

My bad, but that brings us back to our original question, is it an MB frame?

I am not a welder but i have seen the effects of a weld that was not done professionally but looked very good. I owned a metal fabrication shop and all the people who welded had certifications an inch thick, as did the Electricians. There are things i just hire people to do: painters, welders, electricians, lawyers, doctors and accountants. Me personally, i would have a certified welder attach the Bell Crank to the front cross member or even replace the front cross member with OE Bell Crank attached. I try to always be safe as possible.

Now i am very close to retiring, i plan to take the welding class at the local Vocational School.   I have these Jeeps and i want to learn to weld body panels.

Sure would like to see photos of this frame. I am really curious.
