The prior owner of my 2A had a snakes nest of tubing and hose going from a home made tank. Bubba engineering at its best! I have replaced the tank with a good locally made copy, and returned the feed and drain holes from the tank to the floor sheet metal below the tank. I thought the manual drawing would help more when I got to this phase, but it is unclear, at best. My best guess is it runs inside the left frame rail, but it gets quite cluttered around the master cylinder, pedals, and steering box! Or does it run outside of the frame rail clamped to the bottom of the tub???
Can somebody describe the routing of the steel fuel line to the fuel pump? I understand the last 10" is the flexible hose to the fuel pump. I am in Argentina so buying a kit is not an option. I have the 1/4" steel line and fittings, but I would like to get the bends and routing approximately correct. Also please advise where the fuel line is supported along the way with clamps. Thanks, Jeff

Typically I find fueling routed inside of the driver side of the frame and held there by spring clips. Yes. It is a RPITA to run it past the pedal bracket, brake master cylinder and so forth. But that is how it came from the factory.

Hello,
I have several photos available. The original fuel line was still on my 2a. I still haver it but copied it exactly. I did make a slight change to accomodate an in line filter up by the steering gear. Here are a few pictures if it helps. I do have others as well. |

Thanks Gentlemen!
Howard, the pictures are a BIG help. The threading through the toe board is good info. I am going to incorporate two filters: One before the pump and one between the pump and the carb. A lot of junk in the fuel here in Argentina... and a little bit in the tank too.

Good advice his fuel line pictures are correct ,i did pretty close to the same thing except i made it a one piece line no filter connect at the tank connect at the fuel pump. then one piece to the carb on other fuel pump fitting no filter, because i have a new clean tank.Did this way so i can remove easily because my jeep is a work in progress also leave enough length to route around steering box and as far away from exhaust as possible with both lines.

Jeff -
Timber - Have you ever seen what sits on the bottom of the storage tanks at a gas station? Did you know that every time a tanker fills those tanks that trash is disturbed and is picked up by the feeds to the pumps, while folks are filling their car's tanks? Jeff has the right idea.

Here is my filter alteration.
Sorry for the duplications. Two original clips on the fender to secure. Filter before the pump. Keeping debris from the bottom of the tank is relativly easy due to clear access through the filler neck at the tank. Good Luck.

Thanks all...
So, the original steel tubing ends just after it passes thru the toe board into the engine area, near the steering box?

If you're going to use the standard flex line connector (rubber with fittings attached) it will need to end closer to the fuel pump.

No, The original steel tubing ends where the short rubber flex line crosses over from the fender to the pump. I cut enough of the steel tubing out by the gusset just for MY filter. Make sense?
