Looking for JEEP P/N 912366. It is a locking ring for the input bearing on a T18, and maybe T98 and measures .127 - .129 in thickness. I've already called many of the main transmission/drivetrain vendors we all know so, I'm hoping someone has one in their stock somewhere. Thanks a ton.

Your local Napa might have something in their drawers. Or I think I might have one.
Is that the large ring that goes on the bearing itself or the small on that goes on the shaft? Number 4 or 5 in the picture? Edited by bretto - 25 Apr. 2015 at 3:44pm |

Yes. Herm made some suggestions but had no snap ring that thick he said. Border Parts is looking for me. Novak, R&P have also been called. I can't believe this part is not out there. I would think those guys would all have a selection of these things that would boggle the mind. It's a factory thickness part. Someone has to have one or two or three somewhere.

Bump. Still looking. Border parts has had them "on the way" (to them) for 2 weeks now. Haven't been able to get off work in time to get to the bearing house yet.

I checked 2 NOS OEM Borg Warner T98 small parts kits. Only one #912363 snap ring was supplied in each kit.I also have a NOS Willys Motors full rebuild kit for the Jeep T98.
That kit alone had a full set of all 4 snap rings. Then I checked all my Jeep service manuals. The various Jeep manuals state: "Install the thickest of 4 available snap rings that will fit into the groove of the maindrive gear shaft." My last parts catalog (1973) seems to imply that the snap ring selection was omitted when the T18 came into use. I also checked a Ford T18 and it also used the narrow .117-.119 snap ring. It appears to me that Borg Warner omitted the snap ring selection before the T18 came into use. The Jeep service manuals were most likely never updated concerning the procedure change. |

Thanks Ken. Good info. You state snap ring P/N 912363 (vs 912366 I am told I need). I am unclear if any of your parts/kits include a .129 thick snap ring and whether or not you'd be willing to part with one.
You can PM if you like, here or on ecj5. Thanks for your time on this.

If it's a T18, why not call your Ford dealer parts dept?

What I'm saying is that it appears to me the procedure was changed by Borg Warner.
The thicker snap rings are not included in any of the OEM nor the NOS parts kits after the early 1960's timeline. I have two Borg Warner kits from the mid to late 1960's and they do not include the 3 thicker snap rings. But yes the thicker snap rings definitely did exist prior to mid/ late 1960's. I don't see any of the thick snap rings in any of the current replacement stock parts kits. For reference to that see eBay # 140877175524.

Yea, that makes sense because all anyone seems to have is .120 pieces, or thinner.
Never gave a thought to calling the dealer since they never seem to be able to get older parts. Seems the word "discontinued" comes up a lot with them. But, anything is worth a shot at this point. Thanks Ken. Sorry I didn't get it the first time around.

Mike, I owe you a beer or a coke or whatever. It started out not looking so good, while talking to the local Ford dealer's parts guy. "If it's older than a 2000 model year, chances are pretty slim." But, with a little begging and pleading and searching their dealer parts network, he found some right here in PA. I called that dealer and they are going x2 check the "old warehouse" but, they are pretty sure they have them. .124 and .128 thicknesses. Amen. I have the PN if anyone needs it.
