Anyone know details of these new blocks. Am a bit concerned about consistent quality.
What do you guys think? https://hansonmechanical.wordpress.com/2016/08/20/wonders-never-cease-a-new-l-134-flathead-has-arrived/ |

I wonder if this is the block that Kaiser-Willys has been hinting is coming soon.
From their "Engine" section subfile "New L-134 Head": |

That's an awful lot of money for a bare block.
I hope he makes a go of it but the cost of that block would double the cost to have an engine rebuilt buy an expensive machine shop. I rebuilt my engine for less then 1500.00 including almost all new or NOS parts (except the crank and a couple crank parts, rods, head and the covers) |

I figured it would cost more than 1900.00. The next issue is: The killer of the deal. Shipping. Yellow freight wanted to charge me 950.00 to ship a MB engine from Washington state to South Dakota. The Junk dealer had a contract to ship things with them. His price was 260.00. That's what I got it for. So, watch out for that. I wish these guys the best at making a go of it. John

Lee to answer your question I guess when that happens our projects get a lot more expensive. Are there going to be new cranks to go with this block? Cause one day we will run out of cranks and rods as well.

I'm afraid that would carry more weight for me if there was a "Made in the USA" alternative...

Saving an original engine (cracks stitched, cly sleeved, hardened seats along with the typical machine shop work) gets expensive. Metal fatigue is taking it's toll.
Wish it weren't overseas, but what other choice? Hoping the quality is there, warranties are backed up and distribution is local. |
