I started this project in 1994. This 2a belonged to my friends Godfather who lived in Grass Valley Calif and was used as a secondary means of transportation, gather fire wood go into town ect. According to my friend the Godfather was the second owner of the vehicle and his neighbor being the 1st. The 2a was purchased in approx 1952 and was gifted to my friend from his Godfather in 1986 and towed to his house in Huntington Beach Ca where it sat until 1994. It was gifted to me, towed to my house and this is when the project started. I got it running, drove it around the block 3 times realized at that point this was going to be more of a project than 1st thought. Initial thought was weld in a few panels ,brakes,  tune up and a rattle can paint job. That was 1994 and hear I am finally posting photos today. These are a photo of a photo, so the clarity is poor, but you get an idea of what it looked like in 94. Looking back I would have more enjoyment making the necessary repairs and using it with my son as he grew, but in my head the jeep would only be down for a couple of years so I dove in with both feet not knowing how life would get in the way. Don't get me wrong, I'm a happy guy, life has been good and my jeep is almost there, so what the hell!!!
I thought this was in poor condition, but a pretty complete jeep with few mods

This is my son of 20 years at the start.

On the left frame horn ahead of the bracket there was inch of welding one row after another where the frame would keep cracking from poor penetration.

You can see the the original wood in the photo for the floor stiffeners

final repairs to the body before going to the body shop for a face lift.

Body parts hanging in the garage for many years.

1st time I noticed the date stamp was just 2 weeks ago pulling the gauges out of mothballs.

I sent the frame out to be squared, box the frame horns and powder coating. The only upside to my long resto was that I didn't feel the cost as much as if I were to do this in 1-2 years. They were small bites over a period of years as opposed to doing the restoration a couple of years. I will post more later

Coming along nicely.  Many jeep projects take that long... Mine's close to 20, but it was driving a lot of it.  Dad has one that has been tore apart since 88.  Just bought one that was tore apart 10 years ago, hope to have it done a lot sooner!

Yes they are 700.16 I'm wondering if I should have stayed with 600.16 due tire rub, but the tires that were on there were 700.16 when I got the willys

Thanks for the info.  I'm struggling with this discussion myself.  You are doing a great job on your rebuild.

Cleaning up heat shield for brake master. I think the linkage is correct. I took this apart a long time ago

I've had good luck with Jet-Hot and really like the finish.....any spray finish will eventually have to be redone.

Just my opinion and alot probably won't want to pay for it but I like it.

I had the whole exhaust done on 'Frankie' including mufflers.

 View from the back

Just bolted on the fenders and grill to check alignments. Its been almost 20 yrs since the tub has been mated to the grill and fenders. I'm thinking if the top of the tub is level front to rear and left to right,so should the tops of the fenders??? If the hood fits I should be close to proper alignment and yes this is a question. If not any input would be appreciated

This has always been my favorite view of jeeps. Very iconic.

Finally I have steering. I installed the steering box and misc steering componets. finally completed bolting down the tub, fenders, grille.Bolted the head lights and parking lights for my own motivation

Used  Hella H-4 beams with 100w bulbs (not original style, but give off great light)
Waiting on welting, exhaust flap kit for the manifold and a few other pieces. Hope to start soon

Your project looks great. It sits pretty nice on those fresh spring packs.

I chose Rustoleum High Heat paint in a rattle can. 3000 degrees. I used it on the exhaust manifold only. I used my regular paint on the intake manifold.

After reading about manifold paint, I was skeptical on whether my choice would hold up, but after 3 years of running, it has held up surprisingly well. I did need to touch up a few spots on the exhaust manifold after a couple years, but all in all, I like it.
