You may need a draw bar extension. WILLYS or someone made these back in the day. They look fairly simple to make. You just install plate and mount your triangle hitch to the extension moving your hitch back away from PTO.

Hey lets see that PTO shield. I here it's a nice one!

Dear Sir.
Thanks a lot for your interesting answer.
I didn´t know about this extension. It´s an original accessory ?
That´s new for me. It´s a very interesting part.
I asked about the PTO shield when the trailer is on the triangle hitch.
Your photo shown the PTO PULLEY, not the PTO SHIELD (SEE PHOTO)
Anyway, I think the draw bar extension is a very clever part.
Do you have a chance to take some dimensions of the plate and the distance between holes ?
Cheers,

You could always just move your bracket/ball to the next holes to the right

I slid my hitch over to the driver side of the vehicle, I don't have a PTO guard but I wasn't able to hitch my boat trailer with my drum pulley installed.

3-48s,

Now that is something I have never seen or heard of before. Do you have any information on that? I'm surprised that has not shown up in any of the equipment books I have seen over the years. Seems to me that would be a pretty handy thing for a Jeep to have.

Thanks,
Bill

This draw bar and extension were on EWILLYS a few years back . I believe it was a Craigslist add. I was to late to purchase the item but I saved the photos for reference because it was a great idea. It was definitely from an older installation as the bolts were square head. I did see a similar set up on a farmers old 3A about 20 years back and never gave it much notice because I was JEEPLESS at the time. He had a tow behind PTO driven brush hog with the tow hitch inverted so the mounting ball could be used to pull the hog.
I am sure we can scale the part from the photos and get close on dimensions. I think the bolt holes are best ref. dimension for accuracy.

Thanks Bill, thanks 3-48s.
For sure this extension is a great and clever idea !!
I guess hole´s size and distance between them are the same as those on the draw bar.
Would be great if someone could tell us about the steel plate thickness and size.
Why only 5 holes and not 6 in order to fix the extension in the middle of the draw bar ?Shocked
Cheers.

Very interesting discussion and images which raise a question: Is the shield to protect from injury/interference while the drum is running a belt? If so wouldn't the shield have the open side turned to the right to allow operation or is it simply a static part?

I think the PTO Shield is only for protection when the PTO is running without the
drum.
The idea is protect hands, arms, etc in case the PTO is engage, of course, without the drum.
Without the extension mentioned in this post, it´s impossible use the  trailer when the drum is there.

Cheers.

Another thought you could flip the plate with the ball and that would lower the trailer hitch below the pto .

Yes that would lower the trailer hitch below the PTO, however the front of the trailer would tilt down quite a bit & no longer ride level. Moving the triangle ball plate to the side or adding the extension plate look to be a better choice, IMHO.

Yup just like a tractor. Meant so you don't move into it or step over on to it. A lot of old tractors it's easier to mount from back so you don't want to step on it. You see one person who got into one you will never think of removing that or those plastic tubes on the shaft. Pretty chilling.

I'd just move it one way or the other. I'd not want to move that weight back more--of course I tend to load me up.

Love to find one of those trailers around here-all the ones in northern michigan are made of gold however. Thinking I'll have to make one out of a trashed cj5 I have.

Just curious what the role of the five pieces to the right of the plate in the picture, play in this. Where do they attach?

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,
The five pieces to the right of the plate in the picture are the bolts.
They fasten the plate to the draw bar.
