I have a radiator for a 47 with real nice tanks and shroud but two different shops has told me the core is rotten. One shop only 5 miles from me says they will re-core it for $400.00. I looked at a reproduction that looks real good for $485.00 plus tax. Its from a foreign country. I am leaning toward re-core because I would have original tanks and shroud. Anyone have any other suggestions and does a re-core hold up and give good service? Thanks in advance.

IME, As long as the tanks are not rotted out, a re-core will last at least as long as the original.

I would go with the re-core.

It is amazing that the re-core cost almost as much as a reproduction. I am in the same boat.
Are the reproductions from Mullins and Walcks made Offshore?

Personally I prefer to stay original but If I was forced with that choice I'd probably buy an aluminum for around 150 bucks like this one on ebay http://m.ebay.com/itm/161599825407?fits=Model%3AWillys%7CMake%3AJeep

I would question if the reproductions are made out of copper.  If they are just made out of crap then they may look the same, but will not cool the same. Recore.

My radiator guy got a GPW style core at Maine Auto Radiator. They beveled the edges for that ford detail. Pricy but the jeep stays cool on the hottest days.
Made in USA, installed in USA.

I had mine recored a couple years ago.  The core came from maine aswell.  The nice part was it went from 3 to 4 layers deep and 84 to 154 tubes, so I don't think I will have any cooling issues in the future.  The whole thing still looks completely stock.

That's the ONLY way to go if you're re-doing your radiator.  I had the same thing done to mine about 15+ years ago and with a 160 F thermostat, I can barely get it to 180 F or so on a 95 F day climbing steep hills in the forest.
