Does anyone have any idea how many, %?? of the early CJs left the factory with PTO equipment fitted.
I have just managed to pick up a complete setup, 18H, driveshaft and the rear unit with the 1-3/8 6 spine output???? Just curious to know if there is any record of what was factory fitted. Also, whats a complete setup worth?? Thanks Adrian

The big question is of the jeeps made w/ a pto and drum pulley, how many of the drums were paper???
Spoke to the second owner of 10043 and I asked him if he knew what happened to the pulley and he said it was eaten. Mine was paper!!!

My paper pulley had large areas eaten away by rodents.

I have no data to answer the question of how many vehicles left the factory with PTO's, but I will say that I always believed the wood pulley was used before the cast steel unit, however, according to the early set of Bill of Materials, the steel pulley received it's part number, and was approved for service by Willys before the wood/fiber pulley...

Does anyone know where I can either find a complete driveshaft or find the parts to build one? Thats all my Rear PTO is missing.

I was also wandering if it was a universal driveshaft used by other equipment or was it only Willys who made it? If one can find the same universal joints you should be able to make your own shaft? I have two complete PTO set-ups with pulley drive, but without shafts.

I'm not sure if any of them left the factory with a PTO setup, or if that was added by the dealer. Has anyone seen factory photos of jeeps on the assembly line with PTOs?
I've heard the same driveshafts were used on some cars but I forget which now. |

That's a really cool pic Russ... lot's of really good chassis deal of an early 2A. I wonder what the tube on the passenger side of the frame is for.

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife. |

Mine was given to the original owner, as a gift from Sorenson, and picked up at the factory in OH. There was no dealer involved and a surprise gift was the inclusion of a capstan winch which was not on the dealer invoice!!!

I was told the driveshafts were common on older Chryslers?, that may be a source of parts for you....

All the Detroit joints (the type on the PTO shaft) I have seen on Chrysler products were physically larger. Same with Kaiser era Wagoneers.

Now remember Charles Sorenson came down to Toledo in 1945 to escape the old tyrant in Dearborn. Henry's policy of loading extra equipment on new Fords whether Dealers ordered it or not brought extra $$$ into the fold (AND Henry Trained Him). Willys Dealers got the same treatment. I found several old Willys Dealers with rear PTO gear boxes, NOS belt pulleys and Monroe 3 PT. Hitch stuff in their out back storage buildings as I scrounged around in the 70's and 80's. This equipment today is very hard to find, but those Willys Dealers simply pulled it off as customers didn't want it, included it hidden in the sale price, and tried to find a use for the stuff. I bought a lot of it, mostly brand new NOS, and sold it at shows like Hershey 30+ years ago. Today a CJ Jeep equipped with these items is nice to find. In 1948 the customer looked at it differently.
