    Posted: 30 July 2015 at 5:37pm
The keyed coil that is in my 47 has bit the dust. Looking for someone to rebuild it.  There was a company Sullivan J F Antique Auto Repair  that did rebuilds but they are no longer in business. I figured this was the best place to see if there is anyone with knowledge of a refurbish-er of them.

Rick (Scoutpilot) gave me this site regarding rebuilding a distributor, but they may be able to help you

From what I can check with my meter its the switch half. Don't really want to tear into it but if all else fails guess I will dive into it. Was hoping that I wasn't the only person to have a problem with it.
Thanks for the replies will let ya'll know what I figure out

If you are patient, every now and then the parts will show up on eBay.

Yes I see that one out there. Figure it old and maybe tired like mine. Its hard to have every spare part for one of these old Jeeps. And right now its broke down at my Mother in laws house guess I will have to tow it back to the house and wait on repairing it for now

No need to tow it. If it is the switch part that failed, just bypass that with a jumper wire & drive it home. Heck, install a toggle switch in the jumper wire & run it like that until you can fix the switch.

If you decide to dive into the switch, use a cake pan under it to catch all of the small parts that may fall out as you disassemble it. I have repaired many switches. It can be a very delicate job, especially if you have thumbs for fingers like I do.

Good luck, Cpt Logger.

That has been a thought I got it pulled out so that I could get to the wires. Not as young as I used to be getting under the dash is exciting these days and I figure as few trips that I have to make under there will be better

You can remove the clamp from the coil/switch combo, then gently bend the three tabs open enough to remove the switch from the bottom of the coil. Next you will find three dimples in  piece of copper that makes contact with the three contacts on the coil end. Clean all of these contact aresa, possibly expand the dimples a bit, lube with dielectric grease and reassemble. If the coil is electrical intact it should work.
If your problem is with the key working, take the switch end to a locksmith.

Upon extensive checking and lots of sweating it is the coil that had failed. The one on ebay while very similar does not have the same wiring connection locations as the original one. Going to order one from the old Atwater Kent folks it is "new" and will not have to worry if another used one is good or not and how long it will last

There are plenty NOS coils out there. I see them on Ebay all the time. Personally I would find a new old stock coil over an aftermarket piece, but that's just me. Auto Lite 3033XS

Here was one-
