All 7 of my 2a's are 46's,4 of the 7 have the springs mounted to the brackets on the frame with shackles. The other three have the springs and frame brackets connected with the u bolt style mount.I have never had any problems withe the u bolt,I'm wondering if they were replaced with the shackles by former owners or they were ever factory in 1946

Oldwillys,
Our old friend Sean has created an amazing database of the parts lists from several different years. It includes part #'s and where available, the drawings that go along with the parts. This has become one of the places that I rely on heavily when trying to figure out stuff. Along with the huge knowledge base here in the brains of our fellow forum members. Here's a link to Sean's data base. |

Thanks, seems these little jeeps have had many farm mods over the years,I'm wondering if the u bolt style was problematic ? Seems a little odd so many of mine have been converted to the more modern style shackle.

The main reason for the conversion to an H style shackle is the 'universal' bushings and spring eyes that can be used on them. My Willys has the C style shackles and they held up fine for more than 65 years. When I redid the suspension, I went with C style shackles and bushings. I like the way they look.
