Hi Charlie,

I don't know what colors were available, but I think I read somewhere that you could get them in green or blue ..... (Don't remember where I got that info so don't trust me)

My trailer was originally blue.:

Hi Jeff,
many thanks for your answer.
I will try to remove the present paint and see if I can find the original one.
Jeff, don´t forget to send me some photos of your trailer, basically from the hitch.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

Hi Jeff,
many thanks for your prompt reply.
I saw the post about your SPEN restoration. Congrats, by the way.
I think my SPEN is not a Shadow model, because has a square axis and 5 bolt, not 6 on the wheels!
Do you think all the SPEN trailer had the same hitch ?
Mine is not original, and for that reason I would like to see more photos of an original hitch.
Cheers and thanks again.

Hi,
talking about SPEN trailers, I found this 1950 Life Magazine ad.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Appears a rear reflector on the right fender and of course the hubcap.
Cheers,

Hi guys,
looking carefully the ad posted, I noted that the trailer has a reflector in the right fender (oval) and looks like behind the guy charging wood logs appears something painted on the rear tale gate.
Would be the same as JPet found on his trailer ?
Someone has the chance to magnify the photo in those 2 places ?
Cheers,

My SPEN has an oval refllector in the right fender.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The refllector says K.D. Lamp Co. Cincinnatti, OH in one side and in the other KD 333 TRIFLEX P.
I read in other post , that these reflectors were made after the WWII and were used on trailers.
In the magazine photo, looks like the Spen has an oval reflector too.
Cheers,

Hi,
as I mentioned before, I bought SPEN model S. It´s in a very good condition except for the hitch, that I need to remove and replace for something more original.
The plate on the top is still there.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The rest of the frame is OK, the axle is square and it has 5 lugs.
Springs has 9 leaves and looks very original. The rear tail door is original and also the 2 chains.
It has a oval reflector in the right fender and a light (I think it´s not original) in the left side.
The hitch still has the original support leg.
The original chains and hooks are missing.
Someone know how many links have the original front chains and how exactly are fixed to the support leg or to the hitch ?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

hI,
finally last Friday we moved the trailer to the farm.
It was transferred 350 km and the movement was very smooth.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

During next weekend, I will start removing all the Bubba´s extra parts as the hitch, rear bump, and a extra wheel below the trailer etc.
P.D. Sorry for the size of the photo
Cheers,

Hi,
I just put again a photo of the new Fulton coupler in the Spen trailer, because I think the last one was erased from the forum
I need to make the other 2 holes for the 2 front bolts which fix the coupler to the hitch.
Cheers,

Hi,
the SPEN trailers had a special characteristics about its chains.
For example the rear door chains are welded !!!!
The chain which attach the leg´s pin also is welded to the leg !!!!!
Both chains are wire twisted links
The interesting matter is that I also find a rest of this kind of chain welded to the back of the hitch (passenger side)
These kind of chains are too week for be safety chains, so I can´t imagine what this chain was for.
If someone has an idea or has a Spen with this chain, would be great to know .
Cheers and tks in advance for your answers.

Hi,
tks a lot for your photos !!
Did you remember when you did the restoration appeared some rest of wire twisted chain links ??
Maybe in your model the chains were different
The tail door chains were the originals ?
Cheers and thanks.
