I'm pretty sure this is a dumb question but what is the throttle lever for? I pulled it for the first time today and it seemed to wrk like a cruise control?

it was made to run the pto off at a specific throttle. it is dangerous to use as a cruise control.

It is like putting it in tractor mode.  say if your useing your jeep to plaw the garden you use the throttle , or if your useing your PTO you use the throttle  to up the RPMs a bit so you dont have to put a brick on the gas pedal

That's it. Probably wouldn't want to use it while cruising on the road, no auto shut off if you have to brake for a little kid in the road, but if you had your plow or disk attached you can cruise around the fields and your foot won't get tired.

Plus  it is hard to plow  in a bumpy garden and keep constant , same rpm on the gas pedal,  so throttle  is a good thing

I also use it as a fast idle when starting (in conjunction with the choke)

 I use it as a cruise control while going down a long stretch of road with a speed limit of 45-55.

It works to get over a rise while spinning when you are alone and need a push. (Snow) You have to chase it down and get back in though.LOL

We used them as Cruise Control in the Duce n Halfs tooWink

Each ratchet notch is 100 rpm on the Governor, my Throttle also ratchets so assumed it worked the same way.

Does any know or can confirm?

A thing like this happened to my mother when she was alive.  She put her 2 dogs in the car, started it, backed out of the driveway put it in drive,  It did not go, so she got out lifted the hood checked the trans. fluid.  It was low.  She went to her porch and got some fluid and put it in her car.  It started down the road with her 2 dogs looking at her out the window of the car. She raced after it and gave up.  It traveled 1 block before hitting a trailer house hitch.  Moral of the story; put the car in park before  putting trans. fluid in.  I still picture my mom chaseing her car.LOL

LOLLOLStill laughing at these escapades!

Reminds me of the guy opening then shutting the gate in "The Gods Must Be Crazy"!!
At least there he had a hill behind and in front of him to catch it on the way back!

If you haven't seen the movie it is hilarious > Did I mention the scene of what happens when you winch too long and the cable is hooked up high in a tree!!LOLWink

I don't know how true it is, but i was told , down in souther MS and in La they use there winch to lift there jeeps up in the trees during off season so when it floods there jeeps are out of the water. the woman might have been pulling my leg.  but she said it was funny to see jeeps hanging in trees out on the hunting clubs

Throttle knob also gives the Willys another cool factor from on lookers.  'look at all those levers and what are these these knobs for'

it's handy for driving offroad, like on hill climbs after you have come to a stop and need to keep going again or other situations where you need to be on the brake and clutch and throttle all at the same time.

When offroad, I often find it difficult (because of the bumps) to heel-tow the brake and gas at the same time with one foot, so the hand throttle is nice sometimes :-)

I don't use it much, but it's come in handy a few times :-)

How does the throttle cable tie into the cable from the pedal?

I have the opening for it, but none of the parts
