Well it is time for TBI on 48 2a. I live in Southwest Colorado and my 2a is mostly stock with the exception of the 44 rear and disc brakes on all 4 corners.
I use the Jeep mostly for high mountain trails, and have been fighting the lack of oxygen for far to long. I have made the decision to sell a few toys and fund my new project converting to 12 volt and adding fuel injection.
I want to put my project out there in hopes to help people not make the same mistakes I am about to. I am not a great mechanic and am horrible at wiring, but here I go anyways!

There was a story in JP magazine several years ago about putting a chevy injection on a flat head.

Would a Webber carb be easier?  I am a parts replacer and have not changed carbs.

Wow! Thank you for helping me with the picture Art.

I do think a carb upgrade would be easier, but I did the TBI swap on my 72 Blazer a few years back and I love the results.

I think I remember an article in JP that put a Holly Projection system, or the likes, on the flathead and liked what they they said about the outcome. I can not remember what they said exactly, but I do know I liked it.

I have been looking around for someone who builds a kit with the GM single injector TBI unit.

Interesting kits .....somewhat pricey.

The majority would have a hard time justifying a fuel management system that costs al!most as much as a complete rebuild though even with the acknowledged advantages.

Definately for the higher end enthusiast.

Will be interesting to follow...keep us posted on progress.

Yep, you said it rocnroll, pricey and hard to justify, but I guess years of 11,000 feet with my W-O has finally broken me!

Oh I see the definate advantages for sure, altitude plus alot better in off camber situations.

Unfortunately just a little out of reach for most of us still nice to think about.

I'll be interested in how much work you will have to invest into getting it to 'think' right.

Neat project probably.

While I wait for the kit, I started the 12 volt conversion. Alternator and Starter are installed, and replaced all of my bulbs with LED bulbs except the headlights.

I'm interested also in the outcome of your TBI project. I envisioned the same sort of thing 5 years ago when I started my restoration/modification. I had the same idea for my classic corvette, too, until I saw the price tag. Almost two grand, so I just lived with the sucky dead-spot quadrajet.   During this time of investigation, I heard about a late model Dodge car that had a single bbl TBI. I can't remember what model it was, however. Anyway, my build was nearing completion and I was too anxious to get it running. I sorted thru my box of W-O carbs, rebuilt one and haven't looked back...except that one time when I was climbing a long really (really) steep hill and she started sputtering....but that's another story.

I lived in Durango in 1975 when I was a kid. Had aunt and uncle there in the '50 s too. Still vacation there as much as I can.

I have the kit and beginning to install it. The two things that I do not like about the kit are the the external fuel pump and the fact that the universal intake adapter for the throttle body does not fit the intake, and if I modify it to fit, the throttle body will be to close for the exhaust for my liking. I am going to have my local machine shop make me a new adapter, and I am going to run an in tank fuel pump. The rest of the kit looks great and the harness is all new.
