Be aware there are 3 different shafts. If you have the late CJ2A and go to an M38 steering box you will lose 1 inch of belly room. If you're going from an early CJ2a to an M38 the difference would be 1 inch the other way. That might or might not matter but is something to be aware of.
Early CJ2A with horn brush contact (up to ser 178361) 40.5" Late CJ2A with horn wire out the bottom (after ser 178361) 40.5" CJ3A/M38 41.5" Larry Edited by rocketeer - 23 Jan. 2015 at 7:52pm |

Yup yup ^^^^
Sell the M38 one to a guy looking to do a restoration and get a 2a one---you will likely make money on the deal

Not only everything mentioned above but the way the horn works on an m38 is completely different.

Bill is right, but in my opinion, the M-38/ CJ3A horn design is superior to the 2A design.

There are 2 different 2A horn systems. Early 2A's had the brush system like the WWII jeeps while later 2A's had the wire out the bottom of the steering box like the 3A's.

The Rocket is right...as always. I should have said... Original 2A Style. That change happened in mid 1948. Less than 17% of all 2As were equipped with the 3A style horn system, so statistically we are more likely to have, or find the original 2A style.
To clarify... IMHO, the late 2A/3A/M38 horn design is superior to the original 2A style. Tim Edited by athawk11 - 22 Aug. 2014 at 3:46am |

The m38 horn is unique even compared to the cj3a, it requires a special switch and a rod, the switch screws into the bottom of the steering box. The cj3a is very similar to the cj2a setup.
