Has anyone ever seen this winch? I'm trying to figure it out. It does work off of a PTO. Thanks!

Buckeye,
I have a similar Ramsey on a 2A I recently purchased. The driveshaft has been removed but I have it. Mine doesn't have any numbers on it but it does have the Ramsey markings.
I have not been able to figure out how it is supposed to work. Mine has a pin that keeps the handle in place and is set wiith a cotter pin. The handle appears to be keyed at the bottom. When I remove the cotter pin and pin, I can't figure out how the handle catches anything. Perhaps you could enlighten me about how it's supposed to work?

For the life of me I can't figure it out either. I've got THREE levers, one that's just to the port side and is also has a corresponding lever in the interior of the tub at the drivers feet. Then there is a handle on the starboard side that looks like it engages/disengages the winch. Mine also does not have anymore numbers than shown in my pictures

my current guess is this. the lever on the passanger side if it has a pin in it for the winch spool it is the brake, the one on the dirver side is an actuator so you can control the winch from there or with the other lever on the inside of the cab. so if your in the car you can steer and winch as you pull yourself out however if your outside the other one is so you can pull your boat onto shore and watch it come up so you have more control. just my guesses though.

It is a pto winch, BUT is it driven off the engine crankshaft or the pto on the transfer case?

Buckeye,
Mine has two levers, the one on the winch itself (identical to yours) that's held by the pin, and one on the right of the drivers seat. From what I understand, the handle by the driver's seat engages/disengages and the winch cable moves in and out by the forward and reverse transmission gears. It's the handle, held by the pin on the winch, that I can't figure out how or what it's supposed to do.
I haven't had time to install the drive shaft to it since I've been going a little crazy trying to get some brake issues worked out.

I am not a Jeep winch expert at all and I do not know where you guys find these(I am jealous). IMHO, the lever on the passenger side is for a jaw clutch that disengages the winch drum from the winch shaft for freespooling the cable off the drum, this is most likely rusted in place and that is why you cannot move it. The lever on the drivers side is most likely the brake lever for the winch and has a linkage to the driver so it can be controlled from the seat.

This might help, my Dad picked this up at the dealership when he got his jeep in 1949.

I could be wrong, but I think I have pictures of your Jeep. The PTO shift next to the seat was for the rear PTO box on the rear crossmember.
I thought I recalled your winch was driven off the front crankshaft pulley.
If so, the passenger side lever is the free spool lever, and the drivers side lever behind the bumper was to engage the winch. Remember it is free spool out, power in, since the engine will only turn the winch in one direction.
