T90 rebuild

I rebuilt my transmission once, and had to dissassemble once, because I left out a spacer and a Synchro broke. The second time I rebuilt it, I'm sure that it was done right. The problem is that on deceleration, it jumps out of second gear. An old grizzly I know suggests that I did not tighten the nut on the end of the shaft to the necessary 150+ pounds. Well, he's right, and I'm going to go back and do it, but would that create enough movement that the thing would pop out of gear? The gears themselves are all new.
