As a followup to my message a few days ago...
I picked up my cracked block (L-134) from the machinist yesterday. He showed me, using magniflux, the crack. I had to keep asking "now where is it?" while he was dusting the deck with iron powder. It's a very small crack ... right on the edge of one of the exhaust valve seats on the deck. From the inner edge of the seat to the outer extent of the crack is no more that a quarter inch. It looked to me that once the hardened exhaust seats are installed that the crack would be practically non existant. The machinist said about 1/16-inch of the crack would exist beyond the hardened seat which, in his mind, was not acceptable. Not being experienced in this area prompts a few questions: Does any size crack in this area render the block useless? Is there any hope of repair? Is such a small crack like this likely to propagate?
Anymore advice here is appreciated before I shell out big bucks for a "new" block.
