Carter Carb rebuilding

I am getting ready to rebuild the Carter carb. on my 48. Any precautions I need to keep in mind? Right now the engine will only run with the choke about 95% closed. If I open the choke it dies. While the choke is closed it runs fine. Any help would be appreciated
