I took a few photos of it that I have been meaning to post. Dave posted one where you can see the front license plate holder. I think that you can tell there are no bends in it. Here's one that I took to reinforce that point. You can just barely tell that it is there! Also, you can see the nice original pencil point tire. You've already commented on the spare, and the other three on the ground are as nice as this one. Dave is so modest about this thing, that I feel as though someone needs to shout it from the rooftops about what sweet 2A this is. I will post a few more in this thread. |

More photos of Hamhog's '47:
Here's that doggone original metal bowl fuel pump! And, the nice original outside mirror - short stalk, BTW - and, in the background, now you see the correct door hinge. And a nice shot of the driver's side of the engine compartment. Wow! And a good view of the original Barcelona Red seats all around. The front end, again. A little detail of the rear view mirror. Here is a link to my Picasa album of the entire set of photos I made of Dave's Jeep. http://picasaweb.google.com/samuel.cottrell/DaveHamptonSVeryOriginal47?feat=directlink Edited by samcj2a - 01 Jan. 2011 at 1:42am |

It is truely amazing that after 64 years a Jeep can look that good. Whoever bought this Jeep originally never used it for it's intended purpose. I bet a dollar and a donut the original owner Just putted around his "estate", I'm sure the gent was wealthy as noone else would be able to resist working a Jeep in some way...
Hamhog, give us some history!! It's killing me now.
OH, and as far as the correct door hinge that one is not correct for that door (Sam's pic) notice that the door handle is on the top and not on the door, so that means it's the earliest top and would have the "toe stubber" type hinge bracket.

It is, however, correct for the vehicle s/n. I believe it's been changed in other photos.

Yes, they've been changed. When I got it, it had the early style hinges but it also had 4 holes drilled in the tub. The doors sat high at the latch so I switched the hinges. Low has them now...probably should have held on to 'em...Mike, ya using those?

One thing that welled up in me--------could you share it's history of who owned it, where, what it was used for etc. That would complete the story. Thanks for sharing the sweetie with us-------wow. John

There's not too much lean now that you mention it. Maybe I need to fill up the gas tank?

I have some of the old paper work for it. It was bought in Chardon, Ohio around September 15,1947. The first owner, Charles Dewoody, had it until around 1992 or 93. The reason I say this is it came with a service record that was started in June 1948 and the last entry, on the same notepad is made in May 1992. It's pretty detailed right down to the number of hours he operated it doing different tasks, mostly mowing and plowing. There's a service receipt from Santa Fe, CA in Mr. Dewoody's name from the late '80's, so I'm guessing he moved from Ohio to California or at least transported the Jeep.
In 1993 there's another service reciept from San Diego in another man's name that I suppose was the second owner.
I bought it from a gentleman in PA that said he had gotten it from San Diego, so best I can tell, I'm the forth owner. Sorry for the spotty info, I haven't really taken a lot of time to go through the paper work, but it sure is fun to drive.

Yea, I'm in the Marine Corps. We were actually up in MD on recruiting duty before here, but my first duty station was down in Beaufort, I met my wife in Charleston. I loved it down there and look forward to going back.
