Hi I'm new to the Jeep world and this site. I have Disc brakes (from Kaiser Willys) on the front of my 48' CJ2A and I want Original or something close to orignal steel wheels on it. The original 16's are riveted on the inside making them too small with the disc brake set up.
Does anyone know what I can do to make this happen? Thanks for your help.

Thanks Rick. Are you running original wheels or the Omix reproduction wheels that are welded instead of riveted? I'll make the investment in the Omix ones, I just want to make sure before I do. Thanks for your help.

Rick are you having any more wandering or darting with the wheel spacers. I just got mine back on the road after 4wheel disk and spacers.
Btw Here are the spacers I got $75 with studs and nuts.

Jw- did you put four on to keep things even or just because you went with discs front and back? I only have the front disc kit. Thanks.

I’m running both; 4 original KH riveted and 1 Omix reproduction. I rotate them out as needed. Can’t tell any difference between them. Oh, btw, I’m running 4 wheel discs using the GM calipers and CJ rotors which are bigger than the Geo setup.

I don’t ever recall experiencing wandering or darting with the spacers or even before I put them on...except 20 years ago when Gus still had the original Ross steering. Lol! I don’t particularly like spacers, but they are a must with my disc setup. I was under the impression that you could run the Geo disc setup without spacers on original wheels. Sounds like they are a hit or miss for needing spacers.

Thank you Rick, I am still running the Ross steering now with the large gm calipers on all 4 corners. Same wheels and tires as before but it has been 4 years since I drove it before the swap. So I am mostly comparing it to a modern car.
In theory the spacers throw off where the tread of the tire falls in relation to the centerline on of the kingpin bearings. Also in theory a larger tire could get everything back in line even with 1" spacers but we would be looking at a big jump from stock 28" I'm at 32" tires on stock 16" wheels.

Thanks for the help. For the sake of anyone else I also asked Kaiser Willys and here is what they said:

By shear luck I had an aftermarket Omix-Ada wheel, after finding out that the originals didnt clear the CJ5 D30 and CJ5 brake set up I tired it out and it clears. I ended up buying 3 more painted them and mounted the wheels. now on to the rest of the project...

FWIW, just be careful, Kaiser Willys’ answers to questions are usually worthless. Most times direct questions are answered with vague and generic answers.
Also, not being a fan of spacers myself, I would go with the thinnest one possibly. I only needed about 5/8”-3/4” for clearance, but the thinnest spacer I found was a 1” spacer on Amazon. |

Thanks for all your help and pictures too-i guess the only way to truly become knowledgeable on all of this stuff is listening to the veterans, experimenting and trying stuff out. You all have helped a lot. Thanks.
Jim I'll post pictures of the "aftermath".

As FYI, disc brakes with floating calipers will have more wheel clearance as the pads wear. I converted brakes to discs from '80 CJ-7 brakes last summer, running half worn-out pads, stock wheels, no spacers.
Note: the '80 calipers are slightly different, but the principle should apply to all, I would think. Half worn-out pads will last a lifetime on my '2A .

4 k10 caliper brackets are what I had readily available. I was running the same wheel cylinders on my stock drums front and back so the same calipers made sense for me. End all decision was if I put the biggest pads and calipers on that I can fit on all 4 corners then it is a matter of using a proportioning valve to adjust front to rear bias and the master cylinder for overall feel. The calipers are common and the small parts are in stock I just get the same pads as my mom's 78 c10 with manual disks up front.

Here's an update for anyone interested. I bought one Omix 16" X 4 1/2" steel wheel and a 1" spacer. I tried the wheel without the spacer and the KaiserWilly's disc brake set up dragged on the wheel. I added the spacer and I could get my finger between the caliper and the wheel. So I found the spacers on Ebay for under $50 and the wheel for about $110. I'll go to Les Schwab and see about tires...making the ones I have work or whatever, but I'm looking forward to getting a set, painting them up and getting this back to looking a little closer to original. BTW I used the Rustoleum commerical grade gloss Almond on the wheels. When I get them mounted I'm going to try my hand at laying down a pin stripe on the wheels. I'll post a pic if I'm successful. Just thought this might be helpful for anyone interested in going with a stock look while using the disc brake set up from Kaiser Willys.

What's that under the hood of that Jeep? And where did you get those front parking lights/bezels?

Thanks, that's a little old vette 283 with an edlebrock 4 barrel. the bezels are plastic and put on by the guy I bought the Jeep from so I don't know where he got them. They're not real strong so I don't know how they'll stand the test of time. Hope that helps.
