Once I find the window of time to dive in, then I will know more once I get the 350 disassembled.

Did you get your V-6 shortblock freshened up yet ?

I’ve really enjoyed working on my gladiator. I’ve had it about 7 years now.

I got the 198 unstuck, seemed to be rusted valves. I cleaned the block, new lifters and pushrods, head gaskets. It’s mostly reassembled. I’m planning to just run it as is and hope for the best, rather than put a bunch of money into it. Hopefully this summer I’ll have the motor back in.

I stripped and primed my replacement tailgate.  Fitted it into the new tailgate opening.  I was able to reuse the hinges from my original tub.

The bed floor and wheelhouses are bolted on so I test fit the MD Juan side panel.  It's starting to look like a Jeep again!

The side panels are going to need some adjustment where it meets the tail light panel; seems like it's warped a bit.  I cut the original body at the seem between the side panel and kick panel, behind that t-shaped brace; however, the MDJuan panel doesn't quite reach so I'm gonna have to add some metal there I guess.  It's really confusing to me that the replacement body parts are not a direct fit...

Welcome 44Bz

I see your work on the 46 and it is looking good.  I too have some 46's and here recently I have acquired many parts too. Mine happen to be in the motor dept.  I have a later 46 engine that turns over and I have removed the head and pistons are .030  if your Buick motor doesn't work out let me know.  we can make a deal.  I know ND is pretty far from Oregon -- eitherway glad to see another jeep receiving some TLC.

this is very close to your original number.

I'm not trying to push this on you, just FYI, that this motor is very close to the stock number of your jeep.

Thanks for the offer!  My tub serial number is actually 44313, 45682 is what I have on the title and when I created this thread I didn't realize they were different.  Regardless your motor is close to both, almost dead center between the two.  North Dakota is quite a drive for me.  I have family in Northwest Montana, but that's about as far East as I get typically.  I have a sister who was living n Hammond, MT.

Thanks.  Not running yet.  I need to get motor mounts installed on the frame.  I probably won't make much progress with the motor until summer.  I've been working on the body mostly.

Can I get some suggestions on how to resolve this alignment issue?  It's an MDJuan side panel.  The top lines up fine, but it's as though the bend wasn't finished all the way when it was rolled.  I thought about heating it up with a torch and maybe I can complete the bend that way, but I really have no experience with that.  Any ideas?

I had the exact issue with the exact part.

The problem is the lower edge is not shrunk properly to make the radius right. Not having a shinker, I did the next best thing (I think)

I cut 15-20 slices into the lower flange of the panel. This allowed me to complete the curve once i was fairly happy with the shape, i created a small brace to hold in in shape. Then i began tacking up the slits on the lower flange. Take your time so you don't warp it.

It took a while, But i got it all to fit nicely and you can't see where i had to cut into the flange. After the weld and a bit of flap wheel work, you'd never know i was there.

Thanks for the post!  Do you have a photo of the cuts you made by chance?

I really liked the natural, weathered look too and wanted to preserve it.  However, I found the tub was in mostly unusable condition unfortunately.

To resolve the misalignment issue I cut several slits into the flange in the bottom of the panel so I could roll it over.  It isn't perfect, but it passes the "good enough" test and doesn't look to bad.

Starting the roll

Got it

I have a mostly complete jeep again!

I salvaged the tailgate chains from the original tub - trying to reuse as much of the original as I can.

I'm thinking about adding these old tailgate latches to the backside of the gate.  Wouldn't be original, but definitely useful.

If your tailgate chains are the correct length, installed on the correct sides, and turned the right way, they will hook to the “latches” that are already on the outside and hold the gate in a level position.  BW
It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

I repaired and upholstered the driver side seat I picked up.  So cool to sit in it finally.
