   Greetings List:

I figured I'd post up the "progress" of #3798. If you remember from my post over on ECJ5.com, this trailer appeared over Labor Day weekend. I picked it up the following Saturday for $250.00. Overall the trailer didn't look too bad, but I knew I had some rust issues with the farme as ther were angle iron braces on the A-frame and right side, and sheet patches covering the lower tub sides. Floor was diamond plate over ? over what was left of the original.

Over the past week or so I've disassembled the trailer to major components: Fenders and tailgate removed, tub removed, a-frame removed. Here's a link to my Photobucket account with photos:

The plan is to fab up a new frame with 3/16" angle and channel (my steel guy has it in the yard), patch the tub with new 18 guage, new floor of diamond plate, and new springs. I'll also probably do the Model A taillight mod as well. I'm in need of a set of safety chains(early) and an acceptable hitch.

Probably finish disassembly this weekend and pick up the steel on Tuesday for the frame.

All comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated, and thanks for looking

	Sorry for the cross posts. Posted up over on the G: Worked on it a bit this AM, but really had to get more yard work done, then this afternoon we had rain so it was a blow-out. It did give me some time to contemplate the frame replacement. As I posted over on the T3-C page I am planning on using 3/16" stock for the frame. Looking at what's left of the original, there isn't a piece on the trailer that's that heavy. What's the consenus on frame materials. I remember reading that a few here had fabbed up new frames and I guess I'd like a little advice. Thanks,

	If you are duplicating the original frame I wouldn't go too much larger than original. 3/16 bent into a u shape may be fine , but if you go 3/16 channel steel (looks like 1/2 of an I beam) you may end up with too heavy a frame. I can measure my rusty frame later, but I think it was stamped out of 1/8 steel max.

	Took a look at your pics, interesting stuff there.. You have a later tailgate than I , no inner strap reenforcement. I wonder if Bantam started to use a larger steel blank and didn't need the strap to make the trailer end larger all around.... Now I am gonna have to look at my frame.. I thought it was all channel but yours seems to be angle on the outer edge and channel crossmembers. Even your angle is not a stock steel shape. The angle is a nice smooth radiused bend, not the sharp angle you would see on standard angle iron. It will be easier to piece in if you stick with the original material.. you may even be able to just piece in strap steel, and save the bend and some of the vertical members.. But if you are building a whole new frame from scratch...then you have a little more freedom to use standard shapes.

	Picked up steel yesterday. Stock 3/16" material. My metal guy didn't think he could get the 1 3/4" flanges on the channel and angle with his huge brake. The corners of the 3/16" are sharp. I know I'm going to have to relieve the A-frames a bit to fit the drawbar casting. Speaking of drawbars, when I disassembled the casting there was as follows: large bolt, chain hanger casting, thin square? washer similar in size to the casting, 3" strap(figure this was the strap for the hitch to mount on), and the C-channel. My question is the squareish washer remanents of the Fulton coupler or a washer? May try to start fabbing today. Still not sure what to do with the A-frame sockets. The right side is gone. I can probably get the left one off with out too much damage. Thanks,
