It has been said that "time flies when you're having fun". Thus would be the case with Rojo. Rojo celebrated a birthday of sorts four days ago. Hard to believe that it rolled of the assembly line (well out of Brian's shop) two years ago. It's been a busy couple of years for the little Jeep.
A few of our friends have shown interest and put forth some questions during that time. Some kind words have been sent it's way. Overall Rojo has turned out to be a fairly successful project. We haven't changed anything major or had any problems arise from the build design. As noted in the build thread other than lack of ground clearance and some bogus seats it performs admirably. Yes it still has those "cheesy white spoke wheels" but they will have to do for now. Maybe in a year or so if it gets some "longer legs" a change of "foot wear" will take place.
The choice of motor and gearing we would recommend. The "patina paint" seems to suit Rojo's overall personality. We managed to score a basically new full top some time back so old man winter isn't so bad. Jpet recently sent us a new summer top which is going to get a workout very soon.
Last spring Rojo was "carving a dune" in Sand Hollow (you need to try that, it's a blast) when the old motor let loose. We limped back to camp (?) and it sat the last two days of trip. We knew the motor was loose when we built the Jeep. It was a "tow lot" motor. When we got home instead of tearing it apart, we had two more little places we wanted to go.So like all Jeep projects the pan came off and we found the culprit. Number six rod bearing. In true Jeeping spirit WD 40, emery cloth and some grunting took place. A new set of rod bearings and as Willie said in the song we were "On the Road Again". JW's Willys Rush in Noel Mo came first and then we hosted a Cruise Night for our club, the KC4WDA. After that Rojo got torn down (apart) and a reman long block replaced the old.
Rojo now no longer acts as a "mosquito killer" when started. It seems to run quite well doesn't rattle as before. The new motor has about four hundred miles or so on it. This weekend we'll load up for the mountains and try it out for real. Although we won't be officially part of the FCT we will be around and hope to see some of Rojo's friend's there. Sue and I enjoy the little Jeep immensely. When not travelling it serves as mostly as Blake's (18 month old) personal form of travel when he comes over. An casual trip to town and playing on our trails and rock pile here at home. A Tuesday night trip to visit Elmo as it's being built rounds out it's agenda.
Reminds me, Rojo has two new running mates. Molly our oldest grand daughter recently bought her first vehicle. True to her roots it's a 2004 TJ. Better yet it's a  "stick". Didn't fall far from the old tree! Her Jeep is a dark blue and has been christened "Baby Blueberry" ("Baby Berry" for short). Rojo has seen it but not yet "wheeled" with it yet. It's other mate it hasn't seen as we don't haven't home yet. About two months ago after chasing an unseen "old Jeep" as we were told, for many years  we finally got the old boy to price it. Sue and I went and looked at it for the first time. Another trip to check numbers and we said yes. Hopefully we'll get it home soon. It's a 42 GPW. Pretty fair body, obligatory plywood top and some "Bubba" type nuisances here and there. Tub and frame match but has a Willys head on it. Started and ran when parked under the old tree around fifteen to twenty years ago. Didn't they all run when last parked?
As I close this ramble thought we'd let you know where all Rojo's been the last two years and a few of the places it has wheeled.
Colorado, Utah, South Dakota, Kansas, Mo, been close enough to Arizona and Nevada to smell them, (they both smell nice!), Moab, Sand Hollow, Ouray, Buena Vista, TDR, Black Hills, KS Rocks, Rush Springs, Friday Flat Fender run, Fall Willy's Reunion,  ROCKFEST to name a few.
We have found that it doesn't matter where you go or what trail you're on or whether or not you "make that rock" it's the people you meet and the friends you keep that mean the most. Here are some the friends and rigs that fill that spot. (in no real order)
Old Red, Gus, Orange Crush, Bam Bam, CJ3B Mutt, JW, smuffle, Blueberry, Old Yellow Jeep, Thumper, Elmo, "The Reade Gang", Jake and the boys, Grampa's Jeep, Jpet, Willy, Roxanne (under construction), too many Mikes to name!, Bridog, Baja4, Sarge, Nivrat, Blue Mule, Delmo, Punkin Seed, Olive Oyl, Dale, Dave, Kris, more Allens and Alans than I can keep track of, Don, Sean, Oily and the list goes on and hopefully grows!
I'm sure I missed some folks or rigs so let us know here,

As always "see you in the dirt"
