These are the brake line clamps used to secure the lines to the axle tubes. Group 24-07. They are on the left side of the differentials. The rear, after 13453, uses one clamp # 640941 and a 10x32x1 slot head machine screw # 6383 with a square nut # 6273. This clamp is also stamped 'A16' on the band. The front, after 13453, uses two clamps also on the left side of the differential, #A-1515, same screw and nuts as rear. These two clamps have the stamp 'A15 1/2' on them. They should be plated finish.

That is a fair question, Ken. These I have are original to 23353. I know several dealers who sell the correct size and correct stamping for the radiator hose clamps, A10 1/2s, but I have not had a need for these larger ones for the brake lines. I will ask around and post it here if I find them. The A1515s appear to also be used on the militaries and are probably available. My guess is that the rear clamp, 640941 is larger because of the change in rear axles to the semi floater on the civis. I have not actually measured the axle housings but that is logical.

Adding to Howards photos, here's samples of more clamps.
  • The A-16 & A-3 1/2's are original, off the rear axle & oil filler fresh air feed.
  • The A-15 1/2, A(G) 10 1/2, and G-23 are NOS.
The "G" is stylized, w/in a diamond.  Interesting, that the G-23 & A-16 are exactly the same size.  The A-16 is slightly larger diameter than the A-15 1/2, since the D-41 axle is larger diameter than D-25.  The originals were crufty & rusty, the NOS were dingy & oxidized, so they've all been refinished.

I believe both the A-15 1/2 & A-10 1/2 are available in repro.  Can't recall where offhand, but I'm sure it's at least one of the MB vendors.  NOS may still be available somewhere too.

Word of warning, the inside edges of these are sharp!  I filed & sanded them smooth so they wouldn't cut or scratch that nicely painted axle!
